...vs Kia Stinger
Took my car and the wife's to the drag strip yesterday. She recently bought the Kia Stinger. It is the GT, with 365HP, twin turbo V6, AWD. It is an impressive car in performance, comfort, and features. After much debate and trash talk...!! we finally put them side by side on an NHRA classified strip.
I will first say my wife and I are both novices, and never raced anything! In my defense, my Camaro is a 6-speed, so getting a good launch was challenging. With that said.... here are the unfortunate results (Leah is the stinger, we ran 3 times. Branden is my buddy, who has a full on drag truck.... didn't expect that to be close at all!!) And some other pictures from the event: Even though every launch felt different, and I tried a few different techniques, the Camaro did pretty consistent times. I think I equally messed up each time..!! But, it was a ton of fun! And even though my wife beat me, in a Kia I am super proud of her! We were both pretty nervous, but she had no idea how a drag race even worked! She did an awesome job, and we both drove home, nothing broke, nothing wrecked. It was a great night! |

Great cars to build up and play around with. Love to see other WJ’s. A few mods to the Camaro and you can retake the crown from your wife..

Yeah, I love my WJ. Almost as much as my Camaro!!
Thinking of cam and long tubes for the Camaro in the future, but some house work is taking priority. It is only the beginning of the journey for me! |

The AWD is a huge advantage, especially if you don’t regularly go to the strip.

I didn’t know that these are pretty quick stock until one day I was driving and one revved at me and took off lol. I was wondering why he would do that in a Kia, but then I did some research and they get pretty good times at the drag strip stock and when modified with just a tune and simply bolt ons can get almost 400 hp to the wheels and over 450 torque to the wheels! Those things are pretty cool. They just weigh a lot especially with the AWD option it weighs 4,157 pounds. I wonder if they are reliable though.

It's all I need the 60' .. you have good trap speed at 110/111 mph.. do you have npp exhaust option? What rpm were you launching and shifting ? Hard to believe that Kia can run those times .. my 2015 is stock with no and filter that's it.. guess it's time for long tubes, off road x-pipe,intake, and tune .....

I do have NPP. I tried the launch control once, which holds it at 4500 I believe. Then tried a few runs working the clutch, I tried getting up to 4000 or so but being my first time running, I was more focussed on the tree and staging, etc. Definitely will get out there again! The wife really enjoyed it too.
Here is a video of my second run: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TptoUozABeE&feature=share Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

it's a Kia, it'll be pretty reliable. My stepdaughter just traded her 2005 Kia Spectra in for a Honda Fit. It never had anything done to it besides general maintenance. It had a tad over 130k on it, all Houston miles.

Speaking on reliability, we only had the Stinger for about 3 months. So far, it has ran flawless, no glitches, or mechanical issues at all. We had a Malibu Turbo before this car, and it had an occasional glitch even when it was brand new. Nothing major though. I imagine we will keep the Stinger until we about pay it off, and trade it on the next new thing.
My Camaro is in fact a 1SS RS. From my understanding, the "RS" is just a package that can be added to any Camaro from that year. It gets you the 20" wheels, 275 rear tire, Halo headlights, LED tail lights, painted roof trim. A 2SS adds heads-up display, rear back-up camera, center console gauges. Might be some other things..? I don't think either of those upgrades adds any performance. |
