water on my battery

so i thought i heard something today when i came to a sudden stop, kinda like my battery was lose and moving around in the trunk.so i stoped and took everything out of the trunk and checked the battery. it was tight but it was wet. kinda looked like condinsation on it. nothing else was wet at all, just the batt.it was chilly out for most of the day then warmed up to 73. has anyone else came across this before??

I came across it when my trunk was full of water!

I had a leak in the rear end panel where there wasn't enough body sealer, and the trunk filled up with water.

You're probably hearing gas slosh around in your fuel tank. I hear it occasionally.

Don't know if a battery can sweat. Maybe ask a a dealer or battery shop & have them check the breather. Did you buy car used? If so check carfax for any rear accidents.

they have to breathe, thats why they have vent tubes when in the trunk, i have'nt looked but i assume they are vented, if not i will be removing all that covers it esp when it's out in the heat

Glad to hear your trunk was dry. I've never heard of a battery sweating, but in theory I guess it would be possible. If somehow a cold battery was suddenly introduced to much warmer air.

Is this something you saw once, or have you seen this several times?

Have you ever bought one still wrapped in plastic and noticed how the sides are a little wet or have you ever seen a corroded battery tray? That's what I'm referring to

try not to touch it, if you do touch it, don't put in your eyes or mouth and wash what you touched it with. That might be sulfuric acid, battery acid. So be careful out there! You can mix sodium bicarbonate and water to neutralize the acid if present. If it's not there then you are lucky and the sodium bicarb solution is harmless. you can use it to clean the battery posts. we use it every day for an upset stomach. I'd be cautious though.

The battery is vented and it could be condensation, or it could be sulfuric acid and water. Either way, wipe it up, wash your hands and move on. However, I would continue to keep an eye on it. I suppose if the battery were warm and then parked in the cold (not a lot of recent experience with the cold thing) condensation could form on the outside of the battery. A battery should not lose fluids on a regular basis and there is always the chance of a crack in the case somewhere. That might spell the demise of your battery, but better that than your trunk floor.
