Hitting Drag Strip Sunday -- First time!!

Taking her out. My first time at a track. My cat is an auto with JDP 850 package and still on OEM tires. Going to see how I do. Plan to keep all nannies on since I am new and not on a better tires. Any tips for me?

I also have the the Yank 2800 stall.

Assume since auto i just sit at idle and mash the pedal on green?

Not sure because of your upgrades. My almost stock auto ran 13.1 @ 108 by throttle not mashed. Kept it just short of wheel spin for a short bit then mashed.

If you are not on DRs you will have issues with the power you have. I have a Yank 2800 stall as well. I launch between 1500-2000 rpm but I run 17" DRs. I would still turn all the nannies off, although for your first time maybe try the nannies. I have never had any luck with leaving them on though.

Go to the drag racing section and read the sticky for newbies. Make sure you have a SNELL 2010 helmet. Some tracks allow you to run with SNELL2005. Stay out of the water if you've got street tires. To stage, pull up until you light up the top yellow light, then wait on the other guy to light his, then creep up until the second yellow lights up.

Oh yeah, wear shoes, long pants and a shirt with sleeves. They won't let you run in shorts or flip flops.

Most of all, have fun!

I find with an auto it works best to load the suspension with around 1500rpm and then gradually floor it by the time it shifts into second. Every track is different but I am able to cut 1.6-1.7 60' times with stock tires. You shouldn't spin much at all after 2nd gear. I would leave nannies off too. The second it breaks loose just let off. No need to get back into as the et and mph will be sub par and all you will do is heat up the engine.

Honestly at your power level I wouldn't bother going with the stock tires at the track. It will be an exercise in futility especially with the stall converter and no track time. Get some DR's and do it right.

I find that's the beauty of an auto. With the good track prep and proper throttle modulation you can trap mid to upper one 130s and high 10's pretty easy on factory tires.

all that hp & stock tires is going to suck...especially with the stall. You better leave off idle and gently squeeze the throttle down as spinning is going to be the theme of day. Lower the air pressure to 22-24 psi and do a burnout which should help a little. Have fun and after about 300' your car may actually try to hook...

I gave up going to the track on stock tires, but it makes for a nice challenge.

Nice to see you have a TC already. Some DR's will be really nice coupled with the stall.

Have you ran your car yet? I loved the build and there are a few other hi HP ZL1s I would like to see numbers on.

Yes, best on pump and 15psi was 10.86 @ 136.8. Hot air, crazy long lines and poor track prep that day so I only made 2 passes. I have made a couple tweaks and hope to see mid 10's on street tires @ around 140 and then may try the race has tune with drag radials this winter.

Leave on that last yellow not green and you will get awesome reaction times. Your gonna need to do a good burnout to get the best traction on street tires. Good luck and let us know how you did.
