Exhaust Question

So I'm thinking of upgrading my exhaust and I have a few questions. First, can you upgrade your exhaust while leaving the stock air intake on the car? Second, is this simply a bolt on mod or is there tuning involved as well? I'm thinking of going with the MRT 1.0.

Thanks in advance for your help everyone

Yup...sure can. I've actually always done my exhaust first and then added a CAI after just to hear a change in the exhaust note.

You could do the cutting of the stock exhaust and bolt on the new...or you can get the new ones welded on (that's what I did). No tune needed.

I have the MRT V1 and all I can tell you is...

You can keep the stock air intake and add exhaust without a problem. The exhaust doesn't need a tune, unless you're going to get headers and want the full performance increase. MRT is an excellent choice!

You're welcome.

They might... ************.com certainly does. That's where I got mine (the best price I could find).

I suggest going to a muffler shop that will cut off the factory mufflers and hold on some different mufflers before you buy. I did that and REALLY didn't like the flowmasters but ended up buying the magnaflows which with the v-6, really sounded bitchin'! But it's up to individual tastes and the patience of your muffler shop. And I paid $450 installed (welded) axle back for the magnaflows using the stock tips here in socal. Hope this helps.

Hear by yourself.

That's what I did. I went to see and hear some different exhausts at Meets and made my choice from there. Also if you can get into a ride it's the best thing because you will hear your exhaust from the inside only because you're driving.

Doing that I went for Solo Performance MACH X LLT with J PIPES and no regrets. They also ship from Canada and great saving. no welding required and mostly no Drone a cruising highway speed (100 Kms) at 1,800 - 2, 000 RPM's.

So I spoke to a custom exhaust shop in the area and they said that they could fabricate an axle back system for me using stainless magna flow resonators and four inch tips. In your opinion, how would this compare to the MRT? The price would be about the same.

Dude putting MRT on is super easy! I didnt even have to jack the car up! Really i just chopped the olds one and they plugged right in. The next day i took it to get it welded on and it cost 40 bucks.

I wouldn't call installing an axle-back exhaust "easy", you need to have the tools to cut stainless steel. Then possibly need a Mig welder depending how your axle-back hooks up. I mean yes it's a very straight forward install, but most people don't have the tools to do it in their driveway. I know I don't.

Saws all takes care of the cutting. Take it to a muffler shop for the welding. DONE.

Ckeck out the 4 inches tips. They might be too close to the diffuser holes. I had to change my facia for an SS one because Solo tips where to close.

Can get a diffuser cheap. Sometimes for 50,00$ on Ebay or you could check with dealers deleting them to install GFX kits. Some throw them away.
