Camaro Getting Expensive?

How much has the MSRP gone up on the camaro over the years?

2012 1SS (No pricing on the 2013's yet)

Base MSRP: $32,280
Freight Charge: $900

Total: $33,180

2012 Challenger RT (No pricing on the 2013 yet?)
Base MSRP: $29,995
Freight Charge: $925

Total: $30,920

2013 Mustang GT

Base MSRP: $30,300
Freight Charge: $795

Total: $31,095

The Challenger has automatic temp control standard and has hill assist which is coming in 2013 on the camaro.

The mustang for 2013 has hill assist and HID headlamps stock. I believe you have to buy the RS package on the camaro to get that? Also has hill assist. Also 420 hp for 2013.

It does not come with brembos like the camaro, but you can get a brembo brake package for $1695 bringing it to $32790. Track pack includes brembos and other stuff for $2,495 which would make it $33,590 or a couple hundred more than the camaro with a track pack.

Add a RS package with the HID's on the camaro for $1350 and MSRP is $34,530.

I wonder how much the price will increase in 2013 and how much the Challenger will go up?

Yes, they are cheaper than a SRT8, but I was using an RT. 375 HP compared to the LS3 426 hp, but the L99 only has 400 hp.

The SRT8 is more expensive, but it also has a 6.4L 470 hp engine and probably other features. I think they advertise 2 mode suspension. It also has leather. You have to go with a 2ss for leather and that starts at a different price point.

2012 Challenger SRT8

MSRP: $43,995
Freight Charge: $925
Gas Guzzler Tax: $1,000

Total: $45,920

2012 2SS

MSRP: $35,880
Freight Charge: $900

Total: $36,780

$1350 RS Package since HID are standard on SRT8:

$38,130 total.

But Challenger has 470 hp compared to 400-426 or 70-44 more hp.
Automatic air conditioning
Illuminated cup holds ($555 more on the camaro)

So ya if you don't care about the extra hp and interior room the camaro is a better deal here by several thousands.

2010 base 1SS MSRP was $30,992 compared to $32,280 for 2012. So just under $1300 extra for 2 years. I wonder what 2013 will cost.

GM has played this game for quite a while.

First year or two, car sells well with no incentives. GM creeps the price up year after year, and sometimes mid year as well. GM then adds incentives to the car which bring the price down to a similar level to what the original MSRP was... the buyer thinks they are getting a "deal" since it is a couple thousand off sticker, but in reality the final price is about the same as when the car debuts.

Pricing is crazy, when I walk the lots and see 2SS breaking into the low 40k range I think to myself what is GM thinking. I bought my 1SS new for 28k and I thought I over paid.

I have corrected your post to include a lot of things you left out that are standard on the SRT and not even available on ANY SS.

2012 Challenger SRT8

MSRP: $43,995
Freight Charge: $925
Gas Guzzler Tax: $1,000

Total: $45,920

2012 2SS

MSRP: $35,880
Freight Charge: $900

Total: $36,780

$1350 RS Package since HID are standard on SRT8:

$38,130 total.

But Challenger has 470 hp compared to 400-426 or 70-44 more hp.
Automatic air conditioning
Illuminated cup holds ($555 more on the camaro)
3 mode suspesnions (was dual, mid year change)
heated alacantra flat bottom SRT specific steering wheel
touch screen stereo with 40gb HD
alcoa lightweight wheels
SRT specific bolstered seats
keyless start and smart entry (does not require you to hit the button on the remote)
paddle shifters (not buttons) on the automatic
Stripes are standard on the SRT, around a $600 option on the SS I believe

So ya if you don't care about the extra hp and interior room and want to give up a lot of nice features that aren't available on the SS at any price
the camaro is a better deal here by several thousands, though it is not really a betterdeal, just a less optioned and smaller car

2010 base 1SS MSRP was $30,992 compared to $32,280 for 2012. So just under $1300 extra for 2 years. I wonder what 2013 will cost.

I've been looking at challengers lately since it looks like I'm getting kicked to the curb for a ZL1. While they won't perform like a ZL1, the SRT8 is a very nice car and well worth the money. I also found two dealers that are willing to make good deals. The only thing I'm not crazy about is that the ECU is locked and can't be tuned for a supercharger. I need to do more research to verify. Also it looks like they may bring out a 6.2l supercharged version later in 2013.

Performance is getting expensive, is the bottom line...between consumers' need for goodies and doodads, regulatory needs for safety and emissions, and CAFE....these vehicles will only continue to get more expensive.

But, in its segment, Camaro is not overpriced. Equip a GT similarly, and you are within $500 of an SS. The concept that there are few incentives for Camaros right now only support the fact that consumers perceive the Camaro as worth those extra dollars.

You mention all the positives for the SRT-8 like it making "70 -44" HP more than the SS, but you fail to mention it also weighs around 4200 lbs. That's a big and heavy car (not everyones flavor).

While I agree that given a fully optioned 2SS at lets say 42k and a base 392 SRT Challenger at 44.5K the Challenger is the better deal, but to option out the Challenger as most would like will put the sticker closer to the 48-50k range.

Those were part of the previous persons, but pay attention and the SRT DOES outperform the SS (lots of STOCK 12.2 Challengers out there), Also, 3900 pounds isn't exactly light, and from driving both the general feel is more similar than you would want to admit. Heck, the most powerful Camaro, the ZL1 is as Heavy as the larger Challenger, of course there are reasons why, but if weight is all you are looking at, then the SS is better car between it and the ZL1 too, correct? The Srt8 performance and pricewise hits a nice sweetspot between the R/T/SS/GT and GT500/ZL1.
