If your LS7 is stock, run high flow cats. If you have a head and cam package and track the car, you'll probably blow out the cats after a few events.



I ran high flow cats with my 1 7/8 ARH headers and ultimately blew out one of the cats after 2 track events (which also clogged up my mufflers).

hey Joelster, I believe you... but which cat remover would you recommend? kooks come with high flow cats and I think they are welded into the headers

Ideally, 2 inch LTH are best for the port shape of the LS7.

any 5th gen 1 7/8 LTH should also work however.

I had a swapped LS7 and reused my 1 7/8s from the LS3. Worked just fine.

I checked and you are right. any recommendation on where I can find a bypass tube without having to spend a kidney for it?

My Kooks came with high flow cats AND blank tubes to replace the cats if desired.

They shouldn't be welded. When I ordered mine, I ordered the non-catted h-pipe or whatever it was.

What brand did you use? And was it a crate LS7? Did you swap anything over from the LS3? The reason I ask is because our oil coolers are larger than one from an LS3 and that's what the headers hit when you just use any 5th gen header. The headers made specifically for the Z/28 (from Kooks and ARH) are designed to go around the stock oil cooler found in our cars. The ports are not the issue. It's the oil cooler. I was also told from Stainless Works that their headers will not work with the Z/28 because of this issue.
Now if you were to delete the stock LS7 oil cooler, any 5th gen header would fit just fine. I don't know if this is with every brand header out there, but I know I wouldn't risk trying it unless I was deleting the oil cooler.
