Lesser brakes, lesser tires, massive torque disadvantage and possibly less aero.

The GT350 will be a fast car but to crush the Z/28 is a tall order.

They did a great job making this version look better. The other models should be more aggressive looking like the GT350. It seems like this will be one awesome street car and a very quick track car. However, let me explain in detail why it won't be as fast as Z/28 on track:

  1. Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires

Sorry for the novel.

I don't know why Ford refuses to put a serious tire on their super high performance models. Maybe there will be a track version with more extreme tires.

My guess is Ford is more interested in building trackable street cars than streetable track cars like the Z/28. The PSS will be much better for daily drivers than more aggressive tires.

After looking at pictures from the release, the aero looks more for show than actually producing down force. The spoiler is practically nonexistent. The spoiler on the 1LE is more prominent.

The interior shots show the tac and it looks like a redline north of 8k rpm.

I can't lie.. that's a nice looking car. Whether or not it can compete with the Z is a different story.

No one expected the Z/28 to be such an amazing track monster. So unless Ford somehow got their hands on one, I just don't see how they could have created a car to compete, I am sure they set the bar too low.

I like it, best looking 2015 version thus far IMO.
Would I buy it? Possiibly if I had the funds, but I would hold out to see what GM brings to the plate with the 6 th gen first.
Exciting time for muscle cars though, definitely seeing the best cars ever in this class produced by the big three. Can't really go wrong with any of them honestly.
In two years there will be lots of nice low mile hardware to choose from at more reasonable prices too.

the director of SVT said that they benchmarked the z28 in testing, along with the c7, GTR, Ferrari F 12 and the gt3

hahaha... Nice from the front but that side view is still what kills the car to me! Just give me the 13 or 14 mustang forget this 2 door fusion!

If it weighs less, perhaps better brakes are not required to haul it down from speed? We don't even know the hp/TQ numbers yet, but the z likely has more TQ due to CID. Some of you guys act like only GM engineers know how to make a fast car.

Rumor is the 500+ is well into the 500s. 550-570hp range. We will have to wait and see, but if it makes 550+ n/a, and has all the other stuff to back it up, I'm a buyer.

Sucks no auto though.
I think this car will be at or above 4000lbs and the HP doesnt really say much since the high RPM will give you a high number but torque will suffer. Again...only so much you can do with 5.2 liters. Not saying thats bad but LS7 at 7 liters and 7k rpm would shock me to have a lower area under the power curves.

And since when is the GT350 a street car with amnities and not a dedicated track car? Should ve not called it a 350 without going hardcore like the z/28. For Gods sake no dry sump? No track tires? No CCM? No crazy but integrated aero? Nice car but feels like a missed opportunity. As always Ford blows the bank on the motor and again, track coolers optional. Come on Ford.... gt350 with optional track coolers?!?!?!? Sounds like Ford is looking for some car guys soon.
