Am I too lazy to drive a manual?
My last two cars, G8 and Charger (currently driving the Charger) allow you to shift the transmission manually. I find this to be tedious and almost every time I try to drive it in manual mode I put it back in drive mode just a few stop lights later.
So my question is, am I too lazy to drive a stick? I can't imagine what you guys have to deal with on a daily basis if you drive in the city.

Driving a real manual is completely different than driving an automatic in manual mode.
After driving a manual for a while you don't even notice you're doing it. It's just like pushing on the gas, brakes, or turning the steering wheel. You really don't notice it. (at least I don't) With automatic cars with manual shifting pedals it does feel tedious to do it all the time. On my GTI I'd only use the pedals for downshifting, and if occasionally I'd want to zip around. |

I drive an automatic and love it but SS_Matt is right i jump into one of our Semis or service trucks and dont even notice that i am shifting. It does just be come second nature.

I remember thinking the same thing when I had my G6. Having no clutch and no proper shifter really was pretty annoying
However, I love my M6 Camaro! I wouldn't dream of trading it for an Auto now.

I use tapshift ALL the time and it is second nature, my hand rests on the shifter and shifting is a breeze. Driving in auto is what is difficult.

If it weren't paddle shifted and was on the floor then I think you'd feel a little different. But even then, it really isn't the same thing as a manual at all. Mine is a manual and I never forget it is a manual. I wanted to shift the gears and be in control like this. It is what makes the car exciting to me.

Why don't you test drive one and see what you think? After driving the manual, I couldn't see myself driving anything else.

I may end up doing just that, but I don't think the salesmen would want to give me a driving lesson on driving a manual. I'd probably end up damaging the clutch somehow...

When I drive my Fiance's 335i with the paddle shifters or the tapshift, I think it is very tedious. Not so with the real manual. It is truly second nature. Really I forget I'm shifting, actually if I remember that I am shifting and start to think about it I start shifting badly, lol. If I don't think about it everything is smooth, don't know if others have this issue?

I drove MTs exclusively for many years, and when I bought my first automatic transmission, I just about put my left foot through the floor the first few times I had a panic stop. Now my Mustang is MT, Taurus is automatic (with that silly paddle shift option)... and I don't even think about shifting or not. Never reached for the knob in the Taurus, never forgot to shift in the Mustang.
As to laziness... I will say if I know I'm going to be driving in crazy stop'n'go traffic I'll take the Taurus if I have a choice. |

A sports car should have a manual transmission in my opinion. If you don't want people to constantly ask you to drive it, get a stick. It weeds out a lot of people from even asking.
I have the 2SS/RS/M6 and I love the manual tranny, I can't imagine having a manual tranny now that I have driven a stick for so long. My mind was made up b4 I bought the car that I was going to get a manual tranny. Russ |

i always wanted to learn manual but i got the auto cause i did not want to damage the clutch learning in a brand new car. Lazyness yes highly for me in city driveing i pop into drive or in a parking lot ect. Open road i drive in M with tap shift for more control and i like the option of choiseing witch to do.
The one thing i noticed most dont mention when you put it in M it changes the codeing of the transmission. It feels so much like a real manual i swear it i shifted from M to D in first and i felt the huge diff. I driven in plenty of manual cars pass seat. And in M in this car feels the cloest to it nothing can replace or truely feel like a manual but a manual. But this car does a damn good job of geting that close

i bought the manual initially. I had it for a few months. After sittiing in bumper to bumper traffic, back and forth to work, i traded it in for an auto. driving stick in nj sucks. if it wasn't my everyday car it wouldn't have been a problem.
