If anybody is looking for a good daily driver I have to part with my '07 Impala SS. 149k, asking $5,250. Very clean and well cared for. Details on Craigslist.

Well, since it's so quiet in here I'll share the fun of my weekend. But to do that, a little back story. Most of you know my son, Liam, who is almost 6 years old, uses a wheelchair due a condition called Arthrogryposis, which make his legs pretty useless as far as walking goes. Fortunately, his upper body isn't impacted, and he's plenty strong and determined to do just about whatever he wants.
My wife, Erica, has systemic Lupus, which comes along with many other conditions, including one called POTS. With POTS, her nervous system doesn't control her heart-rate correctly, and when she stands her heart-rate accelerates, sometimes dramatically, and makes her black out. She's been using a walker for most of the year, but she's finally resigned herself to the fact that she too needs to use a wheelchair. So, with two wheelchairs, our 07 Impala SS just doesn't have the room. We looked at SUVs, but we've resigned ourselves to the painful fact that we need a van. Wednesday night we went to a local dealership to look at a van, and arrived at a good deal on a nice 2014 Town & Country. Friday afternoon we picked it up around 3:30pm. Saturday afternoon at 12:15pm my wife and son were headed to Auburn from Weedsport to meet me at Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch - I went ahead of them to pick up pellets for the stove at Home Depot. An elderly gentleman stopped at an intersection, and the pulled right out in front of my wife, who did not have a stop and was traveling at 55mph. She got on the brakes, but only just for a fraction of a second before impact. She struck the other guy's 2012 Buick Regal pretty square on the passenger rear door, and both cars came to rest in the ditch on the right side of the road for the direction she was traveling. Something like 9 airbags (2 in the dash, 2 front side curtain, 2 front seats, driver under dash airbag, 2 rear side curtain) deployed to protect my family. My son was directly behind Erica in his booster seat. Both were wearing their seatbelts. Both are ok. Liam is fine, no complaints. Erica is quite sore, and has some bruising, but no major injuries. It's a lot of emotions, but I think predominantly I'm grateful that they were in that van. This was a violent, high speed, high energy impact. The front bumper support, radiator, and radiator support are driven all the way back into the engine. The roof is buckled at the rear of the vehicle where it meets the lift gate. Amazingly, all the doors open (with some additional effort). I believe those extra air bags kept Erica front striking the dash and being hurt more seriously. The other driver was transported to the hospital - he was initially unconscious, but did regain consciousness as far as we know. So, now I have to play the insurance games, get a rental, get a fair payment for my 20.75hr old van, deal with the registration, etc etc. I really didn't want to get a van in the first place, and now I have to shop for yet another! Ugh!

Yikes! Glad everyone is OK! Very scary for all involved! Say what you will about owning a van but that thing really protected your family! Get another one just like it!

Thanks for the well wishes fellas. ssmike you're right on point - we're going to get another one just like it. After that performance, I'm sold. It was worth every penny and second of time it may cost me. Honestly, we bought it really, really, right, so we should come out ahead.
The bus garage called this morning and told us Liam's school bus was having a maintenance issue and I'd have to drive him down. The convenience factor on the van (I have my parents for a few days while I get a rental nailed down) is just unbeatable for the day to day stuff. If it helps Liam and Erica have their independence, I guess I'm on board. And it does bang through those first 3 gears pretty quick...
