Mustang vs camaro TOPSPEED

My bestfriend has a 2011 mustang vert and he almost convinced me to get a GT but once I test drove a camaro there was no turning back. But now all he talks about is how his car is so much faster than mines ( both are stock ). I read somewhere that the topspeed of his car is governed at 113 mph and my RS is 155 mph due to the rating of our tires ( his are 18's mines are 20's). Does anybody know if theres any truth to that? I would LOVE to rub that in his face

It's probably true, my LS has 18s and it's governed at 115mph

The 2011 Mustang GT limiter is set at 146MPH. This is from Car & Driver road tests though I don't recall which month.

With out limiter, the V6 will top out at 146 ish +/- 1 or 2 MPH. The V8 is at 176 ish +/- 1 or 2 MPH. Now remind you that those numbers are for a Stock Camaro. There is a thread with this information. I have not taken the time to look up the Mustang V6 / V8.

The V6 Camaro (LS, 1LT & 2LT) WITHOUT the RS package is electronically limited to 118mph, The V6 WITH the RS package is electronically limited to 155mph. All SS's are limited to 155mph, & yes it is due to the speed rating of the tires.

The electronics limiting can be removed with a tuner, but be aware, that will void your warranty.

The Mustang v6 is limited to 113 according to Car and Driver.

C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 5.4 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 13.0 sec
Street start, 5–60 mph: 5.8 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 14.0 sec @ 104 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 113 mph
Braking, 70–0 mph: 152 ft
Roadholding, 200-ft-dia skidpad: 0.95 g

Why would Ford but a conservative limiter on a car with Z rated tires??

The only way you'll find out, legally, is to maybe find an abandoned air strip or other very long stretch of road. Go to your local track and beat a few older Mustang GT's and send him video of that

Uuummm, maybe because it's a V6 and it wasn't intended for racing. Tires are bought in ginormous quantities by manufacturers...
