Z28 (concept) Stripes

Now, I know that the stripes on the concept were painted on, but does anybody think that they'll use vinyl for the stripes in production? Just something I started thinking about the other day.

i'm betting yes, I used to work with a guy who bought a then new 35th Anniversary Camaro, and the orange stripes on it were vinyl. His came messed up from the factory though, and the dealer had to re-apply them.

I'd rather them be painted on, but they'll most likely be vinyl.

Um, buddy, i hate to disapoint you, but the 35th Anniversary Stripes werent orange.

They were Silver and Black, THATS IT.

You are thinking about the 30th Anniversary, they were orange, on white paint. But not the 35th.

And yes they were vinyl, and if my memory serves me correctly, SLP applied them, not GM.

Which year was it that had the Checkered flag stripes? Wasn't that the 35th anniversary model year? Those looked awesome!

If they do end up sticking vinyl to my car...eh I don't care. My Pop's '79 has orange stripes aroud the scoop, and on the sides - and they're still there Albeit faded, but what are you gonna do?

in my personal opinion painted looks far better. vinyl dosent have that showroom feel to it. with a nice paint job even if its a solid color, put on 4-5 coats of clear it gives it a candy apperance. vinyl stripes just will take away from that showroom gloss.

Completely agree. Painted hands down. But, GM runs into that cost factor once again. "We could slap on some painted stripes on every single one of our cars, set up the booth, tape off the hood and rear deck...making sure it's perfect...and then spray it, etc, etc, etc. Or, we could run it to X person and have him slap on the decals saving tons of time and cash. Vinyl doens't look that bad does it *thinks about saving a few dollars*."

I'd want painted any day over vinyl. I've seen the vinyl and it was pretty tough to tell a difference. You have to know what you're looking for.

Yeah, I'd been thinking the same thing. Painted is DEFINITLEY the wasy to go, but vinyl isn't bad. And besides the "look" factor, if it saves me money (which I can put to a bigger engine) then vinyl it is...untill I get it re-painted in 20 years...
