ZL1 Ordering Information

Dates and events as stated in the ZL1 Order Update Guide sticky above: But what exactly do they mean?

OCT. 24 - Dealers will receive their allocation numbers. Will this be the number of ZL1's that they will be able to order for their dealership?

OCT. 29 - ZL1 Ordering open through Order Workbench’s Quick Order. Is this the date that we will be able to order from the dealer the ZL1 we want with all of the options, or just that we want to order a ZL1? Will we know all of the options that will be available on the car?

Early November - First Consensus period. What is this and what does it mean?

Mid November - Pricing Announced. Is pricing usually announced two weeks after you are able to order the car?

I am asking because I want to make sure that I understand EXACTLY what is going to happen and when so that there will be no mistakes or miscommunication. Any dealers or knowledgable members that can correctly answer these questions would be greatly appreciated. Apparently I am not the only one that does not know exactly what they mean either. Thanks for the explaination.

Follow the Force Jedi and stay current with your contacts as we move forward through the next 3 weeks. Things are fluid...as final preparations and decisions are being made. The known dates as told are all that can be confirmed at this time. Information beyond that can only be anecdotally given or estimated as I understand the situation from what I inquired about today.

"It's very common every year that orders start before pricing is available. If it's a concern, the pricing comes in mid Nov."

Yes, its possible to order before pricing is even available.

OCT. 24 - Allocation number... This will be the number of ZL1s the dealer can order. It does NOT mean they can order that many right away. They are alloted to the dealer. The allotment cycle used to run Thursday to Thursday (check for updates Friday morning). So the next allocation cycle is October 6th-13th... a dealer is alloted so many orders that cycle. They get ther allocation cycle a month at a time (October) So lets say they get 4 allocated for October... and there are 4 cycles (weeks) in October... it could be 4-0-0-0 or 0-0-0-4 or 1-1-1-1 or 2-0-2-0... and so on. Get it? They will only know 1 month at a time.

OCT 29 - Ordering open. This is the date when you can actually input the order and be status 1100 and get a 6 digit number. You won't move from 1100 untill your dealer gets an allocation. Lets use the example above and say its 1-1-1-1 to keep it easy. If you are the 5th order... you are waiting in limbo till next month. If you are the 4th order, you order will get picked up for production the 4th week... Make sense?

Early November - First concensus - that is when the frist allcoations will be given out, meaning the cars are slated for production (accepted orders). This is when it has to happen if GM wants to hold true to the Production beginning Jan 1. there is winter shut down and it take a while to go through the status codes to finally get to 3300.

Mid-November - Pricing - Yes it is typical for ordering to begin before pricing is released. The 2012 ordering was open early June but pricing not released until mid to late June.

That all?

If you are wanting to be armed with the most knowledge this is what you need to kwow and ask the dealer. If they can't give you a definite answer... go up the chain. i dealt with the sales manager when I bought my SS. He expalined the entire system to me... plus my family works for GM so I know the system...

ASK:

1. Is there markup... if yes... WALK
2. How many ZL1s are allocated THIS ALLOCATION cycle? (thats all he will know... he wont know next cycle yet)
3. How many orders are there before me? (this he can look in workbook for after ordering opens)

How long you are willing to wait is dependant on how far down the list you are OK with.... Try to get there early the 29th. Unless someone has a "paper" order in with the dealer, if youre there early the 29th you should get slot #1. No orders can be submitted to GM untill workbook opens. I'd make contact with them the 24 to see how many they can get...

An upfront dealer will be 100% honest with you.
