Always cool to do a lap at IMS! Us "locals" get 3-4 opportunities a year with Chevy dealer events to do so. Like others have said it can be tough to get good speed going. They usually have a ton of cars going onto the track single file and they typically have time constraints around practices, etc..
Many times if you can do 20mph that is good, everybody just soaks it in so some people just idle along (especially along the pits). We got to be part of the opening day Pace Car presentation last year and they let us run 3 wide (got up to about 80 at times). Probably about 100 Camaros on the track! Before the Brickyard last year Chevy offered "Hot Laps' where you got to ride in a stock SS driven by various race car drivers (some famous - some not). I was in a coupe with the A/C on doing 155 in the straights and 100 in the turns. Could feel the Pirellis grabbing for dear life! Hopefully you can get something worked out - but from what I have heard IMS can be difficult to deal with and everything is last minute.. And no - they do not hesitate to kick you for screwing around, doing burnouts, etc.. Here are a few pics from last year: |

It would be a thrill!! I had the opportunity to do it this year, and it redoubled my efforts to make this happen for the Fest, this year...
...Unfortunately, an agreement could not be made between the Event and the Speedway. So...though I hate to be the bearer of bad news: We won't be able to offer laps around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this year. :( |

With twice the numbers in the parade! Will take quite a force just to get them out of the hotel in one group. Not sure I'll even make it over there by 6 PM to do this. At least I'll get a good parking spot while they're gone.
