Final word on Sport Mode, vs 'Drive'????????

Ok, I have gotten the SAME numbers in 'D' as I have in 'M'. TC on or not.

Let's fugure this out. I have yet to see a definative answer to this.

I have bypassed using Sport Mode because I see no straight line advantage. When I start in 'drive' I get the same results. It starts in first gear. OR it's starting in second and REALLY kicking ass. (doubtful)

So I think that if you accelerate 'easy' in 'drive' it starts in second gear and when you punch it, it starts in first. Make sense?

In Sport Mode, 'M', you start in first gear no matter how you accelerate. And of course you can put it in manual by hitting a shift button.

So what is it. Anyone know FOR SURE?

I know I know But everything out there is speculative. I want 'the final word'

I was under the impression that Sport Mode shifts closer to redline. Did you notice anything like that at all? I haven't tried it (cuz, you know... lack of a car as of late... :( haha).

i dont know about ur car but when i turn tc off it blows the tires off my car does not matter if in manual or auto mode. tc on car launches with hardly any tire breakin loose. my car is faster with tc on and no tire spin.

TBH, my butt dyno tells me the same thing....S or D is not a huge difference in acceleration off the line (I honestly think the WOT programming is the same either way).

That said...S gives you faster downshifts when you jam the gas in a roll...D gives a bit more hesitation (much like any other auto tranny), but S seems to lurch instantly.

Nope. Mine shifts at the same point either way.

(Haven't heard back on the 'other' thing)

Mine seems to be the same.

That is why I say that S is more for 'roudtrack', or 'course' racing.

My '95 T/A had a button for sport mode...it would down shift w/ less pedal and hold the gears a lil' longer than in normal auto. It feels like my Camaro is the same and I agree at WOT the shift points are the same as sport mode. The Camaros sport mode is just more sensitive to gear selection and gives the option of manually selecting the gear.

The shift points should be the same but the only difference should be the shift firmess between shifts. In WOT from a stop there should be no other difference. The other differences would be holding lower gears longer.

To clear things up. You will always start in 1st gear when using D
or M (Sport mode).

The only time the transmission starts out in 2nd gear is when you're using the tap shifts in M (Manual Mode).

So as long as you are not using the tap shifts (D or M), the tranmission will always start you off in 1st gear.

1st to 2nd shift is around 35-37mph.
2nd to 3rd shift is around 62-64 mph.

The S mode on some other cars will put the car in the gear that it should be in, say when youre on a track. It will downshift for you. It will also usually hold the shifts to closer to redline. I havent driven around enough in ours on S and D.
