Why does the new Camaro have struts up front?
For such a magnificent sports car, it seems GM is shorting us by not using something more advanced than struts for the front suspension... shouldn't they be using unequal A-arms for better ride/handling balance? The rear suspension will be a 4.5 link setup (should be 5 link really) which is better, but still not great... I just wonder how much handling GM is willing to give up for cost.?

I think the answer is "cost".
Everyone want's the V8 model, and they want it to be affordable. Yes, the set-up you describe is nice, but in order to keep price's "in line", some concession's need to be made. IMO, I think the new Camaro will handle just fine for 99% of it's owner's intended uses. |

Yeah I'm with Moose. They wouldn't build a crap car and call it Camaro. It won't be like a cloud, but it should be close.

Proof for you LSx, take a look at this video, see how tight it cornered.... the car didn't rock a bit!

I know my old 92 would sit down and felt very stable in tight corners, the 5th gen with IRS should be solid as a rock.

I expect the 5th Gen Camaro to be the best handling Camaro yet, by a substantial amount, too!

I honestly didn't know that any car had a front suspension without struts?

and on that, nearly every car out there has a dual a-arm setup with the shock/strut in between. save for front wheel drive ones that have it relocated a little to make room for the transaxle

The most simple and most correct answer to why the vehicle will use a strut/spring combo on the front is because that's what the platform they are using to make the car was designed for, period.
