Steering wheel leather cracking!!
I had the leather on my steering wheel start to crack at 700 miles, took it to the dealer and got it replaced. Now at 3000 miles, the 2nd steering wheel is doing the same thing. Its doing it in an area where I dont normally touch the wheel, so I know its not from skin oil or anything like that, its just cheap leather. So I call the dealership and tell them about it and they tell me to stop by and let the Service Manager take a look to see if it will be approved!!!! So needless to say I was alittle mad, APPROVED???? OK so I go to the dealer this morning and talk to him. He tells me GM has not paid him for the lsat one and that they are supposed to be sending it back to him. They are trying to say it was caused by damage. You can clearly see that nothing has damaged the wheel and the cracks are coming from the inside out. And he states that he is not going to replace it unless GM approves it (and I totally understand his position) so I ask him what I can do and he gives me the number to GM customer service (which is in Argentina) and I call. She tells me that she will look into it and have a specialist call me back. So now I am waiting on that. Basically I am wanting to know if anyone else is having this problem also, as it is my 2nd steering wheel. I dont want to end up having huge chunks of leather missing from the steering wheel of a vehicle i paid $42000 for. And GM really needs to get a call center inside the USA.
