stock air filter or K & N ?

I don't plan on a CAI but wondering if a K&N would be any advantage over a stock air filter ? (LS3)

i've got a K&N air filter currently, and i removed the piece of plastic going into the front grill for supposed "ram air" or w/e. didn't really notice a difference, but 60 bucks for a filter, and i'm doing the New Era Side pipe that deletes the resonators on the stock plastic lid and replaces it with aluminum piping to the stock air box, and i'll basically have an intake then, for only 160-170 bucks

Get a CAI not a air filter.

No benefit at all. But, it may muck up your air sensor if you oil it too much... all risk, no advantage... forget it...

It's been dyno proven not to. Just save a little money and get one of the CAI's.

Some people in the drag race forum just like to pick bones but most actually don't know what there talking about. I think there jealous, like me, because they can't launch as well as some of the other guys but I'm man enough to attribute it to driver skills not my stock air filter. Or they fall into the category of those people who think if it cost $60 it must make a difference, I beg to differ. There is no evidence on the dyno that it makes a difference. There are different levels of paper filter too that flow better than K&N but in the grand scheme of it the filter isn't the choke point.

If you want to buy one filter and just wash it from time to time then go for the K&N, but I'd seriously consider an complete CAI which will come with a new filter and gain you real HP.

I like mine. I have the K&N CAI on my Silverado, and the filter on my Camaro. Follow the directions (RTFM) and you'll be fine. They work. Naysayers are around for everything.

I think the K&N offers an advantage over a stock filter in that you don't have to replace it. A typical paper filter change of just a few times and you're spending the $60 anyway. Of course, I could be biased since I sell 'em.
