Any update on the DIY? I installed Braum racing seats a couple months ago and want to get rid of the airbag light. One of the shop I go to to have parts installed said they could do it easier and cheaper if there’s a write up of the how to get rid of the light with what kind of resistor and such. The passenger from what I read has the most trouble?

Also in for updates. This is valuable info, as I'm looking to move to buckets and retain front airbags, conventional seat belts, etc.

A race seat is designed to work with 5/6 point harnesses. I would not run a 3 point due to safety concerns.

Plenty of OEM examples of race seats that homologated for both 3-point belt and harnesses use...

BMW M4 GTS

Audi R8 GT, Renault Megane R26.R, lots of Porsche GT3 RS... lots of others

Sometimes harnesses are too much of a faff for grocery-getting! If your Z is 100% track use then fair enough!

However, because you need the Passenger Occapancy sensor out of the passenger seat and the driver side airborne sensor I "think" (unless you want to find two junk yard base seats) you should just use your existing harnesses.

- Airbag Systems Air Bag Simulator x2
- Passenger Airborn Sensor (from driver side)
- Passenger Occpancy Sensor and Harness (from passenger seat)

When you are done, you should be able to put everything back into the OEM seat....but I have base seats, if I had Recaros I'd go get a OEM base seat from a pick and pull.
Jeff
did you put together a DIY? this is very useful info. sub'd

Where does the seat position magnetic sensor pick up from? is it on the standard sliding rails?

there is some discussion regarding air bag deployment here (this may be particular to the 2013 model year) http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=459415

keep in mind that i am running 2014 GM Ricaro seats and add harnesses at the track.

in summary:
I've looked at the wiring diagram and read the system description in the service manual. Everything is controlled by the SDM, the manual treats it as a black box. There's no mention of the logic used outside of the impact severity and the driver's seat position. My understanding is that the front bags are 2 stage, basically 2 gas generators in each bag. The SDM determines the severity and direction of the impact & decides the timing, which bag to activate & for the fronts, how many generators to fire.
the system determines if the drivers seat is "close" of "far" away from the steering wheel. so that would lead me to believe that it is a 2 position switch or perhaps just off/on.
if the driver is forward enough to trigger "close" only one generator is fired

in for updates on seat and steering wheel. Swapped out for a nice momo race wheel and thought the resistors i purchased would cancel out the air bag light. It did not work.

what rating resistors did you try?

I've not succeeded in eliminating the light from my steering wheel change yet (but I did successfully after changing out the seats)

I think the steering wheel resistors needed are 2x 1.5 Ohms.

We use simulators (Airbag Systems) for all the airbags and seat belts. They have the proper plugs on them so they are plug and play without cutting the wiring. There are no lights or codes.

The occupancy sensor in the seats was moved to the back from the base so we could add the antisub/crotch belt for the harness system. The occupancy sensor is the only one that we couldnt use a simple resistor to replace.

Can you provide specific details on which simulators you used?

Airbag Systems sells the simulators based on location so they have the correct plug. We removed all airbags (Dash, Steering Wheel, Side Curtain and seats) and seatbelt pretensioners due to the installation of the cage and harness system.

I was actually going back and forth with them about the seat air bags and getting rid of the air bag light. Do you have a pic of the harness and plugs they provided you?
