I'd like that park avenue as the LTZ "caprice." Unreasonable: maybe. Dreamable: yes.

If they do this, I hope they learned there lesson and give the V6 trim the same drive train as the camaro V6. That was one of the main weakness in the G8, The v6 was flat out not competitive with other V6 sedans in Price, fuel economy, and performance. Also since the V8 was only like $2k more the V8 sold and the v6 didn't. Give the entry level the same drive train as the V6 camaro, then v8 performance versions will continue.

This is a very important nuance....it has everything to do with GM's new corporate structure...before the restructuring, many models bearing an 'SS', or 'V', etc were developed separately from their mainstream "other self" by the GM performance division.

Now, they'll apparently be co-developed with the mainstream vehicle model, like the Camaro SS, and now the CTS coupe V...I assume this because we haven't heard anything about a reinstatement of the performance division. So, GM performance isn't dead like some feared.

I thought GM was doing away with the Pontiac line? Am I wrong? If they are still making Pontiac they should make Firebirds again! If there not going to make another firebird I would like to see them make a new smoky and the bandit with new Camaro. I know it's not the firebird but hell I just want to see a sweet movie with people raising hell in the camaro. That's whole reason I went to Transformers 2.

No, the Commodore will continue to be imported as a Chevy now. Pontiac is dead and from the looks of it, will never come back.

i don't know why people loved the pontiac g8's looks ...it looked like plastic cheap and tacky

but pontiac's lineup has been ugly for a long time...they look like ugly bmw's with their weird lines and lighting patterns...in the 90's they looked like fat bumblebees...the only thing i ever liked from pontiac was the trans am oh and the solstice looks good but its not designed like a typical pontiac but that got destroyed by the sky i'm talking 90's and above styling 70's and 60s pontiac was great

Not that I know of... However if the Camaro does well enough yet in five years begins to fade in sales..Then a re-badge of the Camaro would seem like a smart choice..And maybe, just maybe there could be hope of a Pontiac Firebird revival.. Wishful thinking I know, however I would buy one up in a heartbeat at that time, even if GM is still Government owned..

1. Grammar and punctuation are your friends.
2. Which Pontiac looks like a BMW? I have no idea what you're talking about.

Amen! You're absolutely right there. If GM does this, the DI 3.6 will go a really long way towards improving the V6 as a high volume seller. There really is no reason to get the V6 G8, but if you're concerned about fuel economy the V8 might scare you off. A decently powerful V6 with highway MPG ratings in the mid-to-high 20s should attract more volume. And in the end, whether you like the G8/Caprice or not, if you like the Camaro then you should be praying GM makes more Zeta vehicles and they sell well. The better Zeta does, the better chance we have of keeping a V8 powered Camaro affordable. The whole idea of sharing platforms is to capitalize on volume and economies of scale. GM is looking to use as few platforms as possible, and if one only underpins one model, that model/platform may not have a bright future.

Edit: Also, MikeZ, you keep reinforcing your points about how things are in your area, but GM doesn't just service your little corner of the world. Arizona is very different from Southern California which is very different from Northern California which is very different from Massachusetts which is very different from Florida. Fine, maybe people in your area only buy the largest V8 truck they can find, but the rest of the nation just doesn't operate that way, and GM needs to cater to the whole nation.

I believe in the Middle East the G8 is re-badged as a Chevy Lumina SS. If they did this they already have everything they need to re-badge it and not waste money.

No, stovt001, GM doesn't just service my state. I just wish they'd stop chasing pitches in the dirt. We all have a common wish...that they will be able to produce vehicles that people will continue to want. I just hope the good stuff doesn't get squeezed out by Caprice Classics. LMAO about that one.

WTH? The CTS-Coupe is the ugliest car known to man the G8 needs to be kept but should be an Impala.........
