Tonneau Cover

I keep trying to use this tonneau cover because I've been told that the top will wear out prematurely if I don't but I HATE this thing!!!

I am constantly having to watch my rear view mirror to see when it is coming loose. At highway speeds, I have to pull over every 20 minutes to put it back on because it has blown loose except for the two elastic straps.

Surely someone must have a solution for this thing.

Just don't use it. Whoever told you that is wrong. Are you putting it on right, tucking in the front of it behind the seat? I have never had any problem with mine and that includes hauling ass down the interstate at 90 mph.

Yup. I unfold it out across the rear, tuck in that flap between the back seat and the folded roof, tuck the tabs on the front of the two hard plastic wings, and tuck all of the back edges down below the trim.

And when I'm talking about highway speeds, I'm referring to like 65mph.

Our car never had the bolts installed by the previous owner, so i assume he never used the tonneau... I added the bolts and have been using it every time we have the top down, had it up to about 110 and it just barely ripples, never had it come loose.

I do lay a folded bath towel over the top before putting the tonneau on, saw that trick mentioned by someone here. It keeps it from rubbing the top, and makes it fit a bit tighter.

Its a bit of a hassle but i love the look.

Here's a couple of ideas for you. First is a simple DIY thread to add extra tie downs:

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=272309

The other thing I plan to do is utilize an "interior cover" whenever possible so I am not always putting the top up and down. So once you get that tonneau nice and secure, you can leave it in place. Just be aware that long term storage in the down position will increase wrinkles temporarily.

This is what I did to my tonneau cover, real easy to do, I posted pics of mine. Something like that should help the front stay down.

This isn't the best illustration, but your tonneau cover should have the bungee cords that attach to posts as shown here:

http://sandyblogs.com/techlink/?p=381

If your car doesn't have the posts behind the back seats and your cover doesn't have the bungee cords as shown then contact a dealer. As others have said I haven't had any issues with my cover even when passing other cars and trucks on the interstate. I don't know that it makes any difference for the cover coming loose, but I also use a thin black microfiber towel between the convertible top and tonneau cover to prevent the cover from leaving rub marks on the convertible top.

Drove over 200 miles today with mine on at speeds up to 75 on the Interstate, no problems at all with it staying put. It wiggled some when I passed some 18 Wheelers but that is all.

It's really strange that some stay on fine while others blow off constantly. I wonder if there's a pretty wide variance in manufacturing or something about the sequence we use to put them on?

I've read a ton of old threads here, especially in the convertible forum, before buying a 2011. One of the issues I expected to have to put up with was the tonneau since '11's have the old design... but I've pretty thouroughly tested it and I just can't see this thing blowing off

Mine has blown "loose", but not completely off. In post #20 I mentioned how I fixed the problem! Good luck.

I've noticed by pictures on some forums that there seems to be two styles of covers. some have a flap in the front that you tuck in. mine has flaps on the front & rear that you tuck in.

I'd love to compare a few of these side by side, especially known good ones and known to blow off ones.

Mine has the 4 or so " flap that folds down in the front, the back just sticks straight back under the trunk lip. Since I bought the car used, I don't know for sure but I assume its the original design, car built in April 2011.

The only difference that I know of is the newer ones have bungee cords the older ones have plastic tabs. Mine also tucks in the back and has the front flap, but I have the bungee cords.
