Safety of Camaro

I remember a few years back that the camaros and firebirds were reported to have the most deaths...although i don't know if that was true it was on aol and we know how the media hates gas guzzlers.

and i figure its more because its an affordable fast vehicle and most people who died probably were speeding

but in a collision how does this new camaro stack up...is it safer than say a prius? as long as i drive the speed limit will i be safe in a normal collision? since it weighs a lot i'd imagine its safer than the last f body

the fourth gens actually had five star frontal for both passenger and driver.
well, until they redid the front in '98 then it was 4 passenger 5 driver.
and, your fast affordable car statement is the most logical answer to the death rate.

The 5th gen can blame 2012 safety standards for a lot of its weight. it has six standard air bags, and uses high strength steel and ultra high strength steel for reinforcement. it is expected to get five stars all around. so feel safe while you are driving it
and besides, none of use want to see the air bags of our camaro. so lets practice defensive driving

hahaha defensive driving in a camaro...ill try.

The government goes to the dealer to buy the cars they test, if I remember correctly. So as you aren't getting your cars fast enough, not sure how the governemnt will get theirs.

And it has been tested by GM, a lot.

My wife and I drove a 2007 Lincoln MKX and were hit head on by a drunk driver. My wife came within a hair of dying. She spent two months in the hospital suffered a severe head injury, and will be at least two years before she can walk without crutches. We looked at new cars as the Lincoln was ruined in the accident. The new Camaro had as good a crash rating as almost any vehicle on the road in it's price range. Six air bags made our decision pretty easy.

Actually both the 3rd and 4th gens were very safe in accidents. it's just that you had a lot of people doing crazy things in those cars and they would have been killed in whatever car they were driving.
I remember when the the 3rd gens came out in 1982 they had the highest crash rating for the time.

How does the new Camaro stack up in a collision? The answer depends on too many variables. However, if you are going fast enough and take hard enough of an impact, then your fate is pretty much sealed.

It also depends on what you hit...

Run into a Prius? No problem.

Run into a Hummer...

But at least with the Hummer, you'll stand a better chance of walking away from the Camaro than you would if you were driving the Prius.

It should have 5-stars all the way around, they've done enough tinkering to make that more than possible.

It also has enough air bags inside to rival the best solitary rooms in mental hospitals.

That said, you can always kill yourself if you drive stupid enough......I should know......and having a vehicle of this caliber only increases those chances of death.

Drive smart, you'll be fine.
