Replacing speakers in Non-BA car...
Has anyone replaced only the speakers (front, rear or both) without changing the radio or amplifying them? If so does it sound any different or will they need to be amplified?

It's possible, but there are a lot of reasons why it's not recommended. Here's a little breakdown:
1. Stock head unit puts out less power per channel than the BA system, and the BA system might get you 15W per channel on a good day. 2. Stock speakers are most probably 2 ohm speakers (I don't remember exactly), so if you replace with aftermarket speakers (which are most often 4 ohm), you will be increasing impedance and therefore reducing the power output of your head unit (so then you're at around 10W per channel...). So in short......if replacing the speakers, they really need to be amplified.

I think you mean two 4 ohm speakers in parallel, but at any rate, the outcome will remain the same

You can make the ******** harness yourself, if he doesn't offer it anymore. I have the original harness and consulted him in the design. See this thread: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=213330 |

going in to the shop tomorrow to have front speakers replaced with 4ohm polk DXI 6500's and having new wires run from the 710W amp in the trunk. I have a non BA system and had the amp and sub done about a year ago, doing it a step at a time. the current fronts can get fairly loud but they are washed out and not very clear at the higher volumes, basically your gonna need more juice(amp) to power a louder and clearer speaker set up. replacing the speakers only might improve the sound slightly but the improvement is going to me minuscule!
