I have the BBK LTs with HF cats....I installed the offroad cat deletes briefly, but did not like the sound or the smell...According to BBK, they've had no reports of their cats failing under boosted apps...so I've reinstalled the cats...I'm hoping that the correct tune with sufficient fueling will keep my cats from melting...

I had mine in the shop the last couple of days for other work and after reading several of these posts, I asked them to check them and sure enough they were starting to melt and come apart. I was very close to complete blockage. Some of the good information on the forums has saved me a lot of headaches.

Alright guys, my boss has asked me to get some info from people that want to be testers. Our information we had already gathered was lost due to our server going down and they couldn't recover it. We are about to begin preliminary production and need longevity testers. The cats will be free to you, alls we ask is that you give us feedback in them and if they fail on you to please send them back so we can make changes to the coating. I you're interested, please fill out the form and pm it to me. Thanks guys!

When deleting or gutting the cats, do you need to tune out any codes?

Remember Fuel Cools the Cats to keep them from Melting

Fuel pumps that can't keep up and injectors that are Just big enough to meet the power goals will not allow enough fuel for COT to work Properly.

COT Needs to be able to drop the AFR to 9.8:1 to cool the Cats, IF there is enough injector and fuel pump to support that much fuel demand.

In order to have 11.5:1 AFR For an entire Quarter mile or longer COT would have to be turned off or have a MAXED out the fuel supply with it On were it can't reach COT Fuel demands.

So the only way it is the Tune and everything else is Right, is IF COT is turned off.

We never turn it off with Cats in place.

Why are the cats getting so Hot?

2 reasons, they are too small for Supercharged Apps and the fuel supply is not capable of supporting COT Fueling.

Ted.
I had clogged cat, replaced with off-road section for the time being. How imperative is it to get a re-tune? Should I limp it around until my speed shop is able to squeeze me in?

As long as your not getting CEL you will be fine for the time being.

The worse case is that it is Rich at WOT if COT is still ON.

Which it could be off if you lost a cat.

Ted.

Good thing I didn't hold my breath I would have been dead a long time ago.

15# of boost + 3rd&4th gear (legal) WOT runs + unbranded/cheap 100cpi metal cats = carnage

I'm glad it happened during data logging runs - I think we even captured the moment when it melted and twisted....
