Mustangs V6 Ecoboost VS Carmaros V6 turbocharged

The muscle wars have just begun and with Fords comeback the new 2010 mustang V6 Ecoboost with an impressive 340 hp will outperform the 2010 carmaro 300 hp v6. However GM will possibly come back with a turbocharged V6 that would even things up.

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...uspension.html

Who would be the winner? take a guess, Lets just hope that GM delivers

Future Mustang Vs Camaro muscle car wars include:

V6 @ 340 + HP Mustang ecoboost Vs Camaros Turbocharged
V8 @ 400 + HP Mustang 5.0 boss Vs Camaros 6.2 LS3
V8 @ 500 + HP Mustang 5.4 GT500 Vs Camaros 6.2 LSA

pure speculation.

From what I understand, the ecoboost v6 is an alternate to the v8, so it will cost the same as the v8 +/- a few hundred dollars.

the ecoboost i4 would be the same for the v6 model, so the camaro v6 would be competing with this.

so if thats true... that 340-50 doesnt sound as good when you compare it to the 422hp of our Maro.

Don't expect any changes in today's, base 4.0-liter V-6 offering, as its prime purpose is motivating low-end and rental-fleet Mustangs.

. There's no reason to think the next gen GT's powerplant won't take its cue from this technology, and thus get the same tricks. Something like 325 to 350 horses out of the new 5.0-liter V-8 sounds feasible.
It may be a little more fair of a run now...but what happened to all the chest-thumping talk of a Camaro-anhilating Mustang?

If the stuff in this article is even close, we(Camaro) still have IRS, and still have 90+hp on the V6, and 60+ hp on the GT. The SS may be beaten in fuel economy by the EcoBoost models...but that's about it.

According to this, Camaro will stay the performance bargain, for sure! However, I would be very interested in a GM equivilant to the EcoBoost....that would be interesting.

Ecoboost. what a misnomer.

2 whole mpg increase. Sheesh.

Still it does make the Mustang a little more appealing to me than the bloated Cologne V6 Explorer motor did. Too bad it will probably cost more than a 4.6

2 mpg increase over the V6 or 2 mpg increase over the V8? Just curious... not sure what the ecoboost specs are...

Exactly.

The thing that DOES scare me though, is there seems to be talk floating around of the eco boost stangs being an American supra...

Though I doubt they will be able to handle as much power as the supras could, there is no denying the easy modability of a factory FI motor.

I don't know what you're comparing it to, but from the context I will guess 4.0 V6. If so then it is an increase of 2 MPG and 130hp (a 62% bump).

It is probably fairer to compare it's mileage to that of the expected 5.0 or at least the current 4.6 since it makes similar power and would probably be cross shopped against the GT.

Ecoboost implies a significant increase in fuel economy.

Like a vtec-e Honda.

I'm not questioning the horsepower. Just the name selection. The engine's power production speaks loudly enough for itself.

When I was car shopping, I quickly eliminated the 4.0 Mustang. It wasn't any better than a lightly used certified pre-owned 3.8 Camaro and well behind the Dodge Neon SRT/4 in every category. The Mustang had a little more off the line than the Mazda I ultimately bought but the Mazda had more power from 4000-6500 rpm and handled better in spite of being fwd.

I would have definitely considered a turbo V6 Mustang depending on the price.

Mazda is just going to call it the MZI whether it's turbocharged or not. Like the MZR (Ford DHE-423) whether it's a 1.8 European model, Mazda B2300, or the 2.3 DISI Turbo Mazdaspeed6. They are all MZRs

Very true. But as of right now, stock for stock is all I care about. It's really all that matters when you come right down to it, since money can make anything faster than anything else.

Well, in a stock for stock comparison, the Camaro wins

Basically, as stated before, the Eco-boost v6 is an ALTERNATIVE to the V8, so it will be the same price as the gt +/- a few hundred.

Therefore Eco-boost = SS competition.
