help installing a jl xd600/5 to factory speakers and sub
This is my first post to this forum so I hope that my etiquette is correct. To anyone who posts to help thank you in advance. I really appreciate it.
A little back round to my situation. I own a Non-BA 2010 Camaro. I just purchased a JL Audio XD600/5 amp. I currently have a JL 10" 1200W max sub in a ******** enclosure installed in the trunk. Right now the sub is up hooked with some crappy amp which I do not wish to embarrass myself by naming. I used a pacsun T harness to steal the high level input from the rear speakers. Right now I am just primarily concerned with install of the new amp and running wire to current factory speakers. (I plan to do whole system in stages, AMP with sub then new speakers, then possibly the clean sweep). The problem that I am running into is that I am not sure how to run the high level input from the factory stereo all the way back into my trunk without having a mess of wires. I want everything to work properly, (e.g. the fade). I was thinking about buying another pacsun adapter and hooking it to the front input but that would just give me another rca output from the deck and I don't know how I would wire it all up to my new amp to get the fade working properly. Does anyone know of a solution to this issue? I honeslty don't want to take my car to an audio place. I want it done right and done cleanly. I know that there are some good places out there but I have had some back experiences in the past, I would also like to save on the labor and continue to personalize my car. Basically what I am saying is that I love my car and if its not going to be done right then I don't want it done at all. Please help! Thanks again all for any help and by the way this site freakin' rocks. |

You may want to find a good install shop to take the plunge on that install. I'm not sure if the non BA system has the 26 wire mess that the BA system has, but if so, I'd have to pass on that self install.
Good luck.

Ok... I will try and make this short, I have a habit of rambling.
first - if your going to run your OEM speakers from an aftermarket amp, you will need/want to gather your signal from front of the car, not the back. The reason is, as the high-level outputs leave the head unit, they pick up all kinds of noise through the car. you dont want to then turn that garbage into signal and then amplify it. You can either run 2 Line Output Converters (LOC's) or you can get a processor like the Fosgate 360.2, JBL MS8, Audison BitOne... there are lots of them available, just go to crutchfield or the like and look up OEM integration. If you run the LOC, you will have 2 RCA cables to run from the LOC to the amp in the trunk. much easier than running high-level speaker wires. the JL amp your talking about is a 5-channel amp, so you can then run the fronts to your doors, the rears to your parcel shelf and the sub-out to your sub, using speaker wires. I glossed over most of the technical detail to just get you some basic information... so while its not horribly complicated, its not quite as over-simplified as I make it seem in this single post. It doesnt have to be complicated or expensive to sound nice... and there are a few of us here that have done this hundreds of times to our own cars, been competitors and professional installers, we're all willing to help walk you through it.
