Question Can you install a HUD on a 2011 1SS

Hey folks I am doing some research on the differences in the SS models. I want to get one with the RS package but I really dont want leather/brembo brakes/4 gauge/ or whatever extra goodies that come on the 2SS, I only want the RS (I could live without the RS if need be)and the HUD, is it possible to install the HUD after I buy it? do the 1SSs have a knock out plate in the dash since they dont come with HUD?

I hate to say it but do a search for 2010 HUD under the DIY section...

The short answer is: Probably.

The long answer is there is a thread on this in the Audio/Video section where a member is trying to retrofit one into his 2010. He doesn't have everything he needs yet but he's working on it and will post instructions when its complete and working. Being that your car will be a 2011 it will probably be similar if not easier (if theres any wire harness modifications they may already be in the car).

People are going to reply to this and say no because you need a special windshield, ignore them. Yes the HUD equipped cars DO come with a coated windshield which increases the definition and clarity of the HUD, but it works fine without it.

Finally, all SS models come with Brembo Brakes, not just the 2SS.

Do a 1SS, with RS package. the leather is part of the 2SS package. you get Brembos regardless of 2SS or 1SS.

Well I am going by what I see on the "Build your own" page at chevy.com and I notice a considerable difference of around 3-4 K dollars.
I dont need leather, dont need those silly gauges 'cause you gotta look all the way down on the console to read them(besides that I had a set on my 68 console and actually it got annoying to look down there for any information) I would rather have the HUD up on the windshield, I dont need all that electronic garbage that can go wrong like I hear about in here. It is too bad the 1SS doesn't come with HUD or at least include it in the RS package.
All I know is that from what I see on Chevy site I am only interested in the 1SS with the RS package so that I can add the HUD later, Actually I could live without the HUD if need be, but I kinda dig it and am just wondering is it can be installed after I buy it.

1SS/RS is a perfect solution to V8 and options. I'd HIGHLY recommend to everyone the upgrade Boston Acoustics system or at least an upgrade of the stock sound after buying it. The Connectivity package is cool too, with the USB port, and Bluetooth capability. I had a ton of upgrades on mine. I'm probably going to get the gauges installed and have most of the factory/dealer options installed.

As far as the HUD is concerned... yes it can be done. I hear though that the windshield is different? If anyone can confirm that. I imagine that might affect the HUD's visibility.

Well as i am doing the DIY on the HUD, LOL If i get it to work in the 2010 it will work in a 1SS 2011 car, The windshield is different on HUD cars but you can use the windshield out of a non HUD car (but the definition and clarity will be off), Now if GM will let the HUD out i will get it done..

So which models have the HUD from the factory. I must have been mis-informed, cause I thought HUD was standard in all 11's

The HUD is only available on the 11' 2LT and 2SS models.

To save yourself a lot of time, money and headache, my advice would be to either get the 1SS and forget about the HUD or just get a 2SS.

If you have the cutout in the dash for where the HUD is supposed to go you should be able to do it. You just need to make sure you all the info you need first before attempting it.
