Rookie question - Air filter removal

Hello

So the purchase of this car, and constant viewing of this forum has really peaked my interest in DIY vehicle care/inspections. I always knew *how* things worked for the most part, but getting down and inside the car was a different story.

In any case, I wanted to just take a look at my air filter today - I know its probably still good, but just wanted to look for the sake of my own knowledge of how its done.

I am scared to force anything just incase I am about to do something wrong. I tried to open up the case today, as per the instructions in the manual, but couldnt get the lid to the air filter case off. I can see the 2 plastic hinge/clamp pieces that lock in on the right side of the housing, but I want to be sure there is nothing else holding that lid before I try to use brute force. Can anyone let me know? After watching some youtube vids and such, it seems simple, but sometimes people unscrew certain areas first.

Thanks in advance.

There are tabs on the engine side of the lid that you need to be aware of. Once you undo the two clamps, lift slightly on the right side and pull towards the fender until the tabs clear on the left side.
