Supercharged Guys... Is a 275 Drag Radial enough?
Just wondering...I am getting my supercharger in spring. What I want to know from you guys that are already there. is will a 275 Drag Radial on the stock rim be enough? I am guessing the car will be anywhere between 500 - 550 at the wheels from what I have seen based on other with the same set up. I am looking at the Maggy with stock internals. One of the considerations is to have the wheel widened to accomidate a 305 DR, but if I can get away with a 275 I would rather not add the extra weight to the car and have to spend the extra $$$ to have them widened. Though I do think a wide tire would look nice.

Any tire you put on the stock 20" wheels is going to limit you. To really get the most out of your car you will need to invest in some smaller wheels. If you check, all the fast guys have them. My bogarts were about $2500.+ cost for 4 new tires.

spend the money and get another set of wheels for the back if you are going to play at the drags. lots of guys have went with the 18" 40mm offset z06 front wheel with 305's for the rear of the camaro. Either that, or buy a good set of rims for all 4 corners.. you'll be glaad you did.
you will overpower a 275 like this at the track... LOL |

A 275 drag radial will work great for you. I was able to get into the 10's and 1.60 60' with a M & H Racemaster 18" 275 drag radial. Go for it.

To answer your question, yes, 275's are more than enough to handle your power output. There are 8 sec Outlaw and Truestreet cars that are running 275's. The X-factor that limits our cars are two things:
Tire sidewall - 20" wheels won't allow a tall enough tire to "ripple" from a holeshot. These stock low profile tires are good for looks and all around driving, but they're not made for off-the-line acceleration. Chassis modifications - I always laugh when I see guys (not neccesarily on this forum) who put these gigantic meats underneath their cars to help compensate for a lack of chassis modifications. There is more to gaining traction than just the width of the tires. "Suspension squat" and "rebound" will provide you with more traction than the tires will - that's why it's so vital to improve your suspension when you add significantly more power than the stock platform was engineered to handle. Look, chassis mods aren't "sexy." You can't polish them or show them off at a car show, but if you plan on increasing your drivetrain's power, you'll never see your car's full potential until you can plant it on the ground. Thanks guys. I'm not one of the guys that will live at the strip. I may go one a year if that. I just really wanted to know how much of a bennefit is there between a 275 vs 305 when you take the side wall into consideration because I don't ever plan on changing to a different wheel size.

you can fit nittos 555r 305's to the 20" wheels, I've had that set up for a year, I daily drive my car and I run low 11's easy with that same amount of power....I go to the track often too.....

Will 18" rims fit over the stock 2SS brakes? I don't want smaller brakes for the odd time I head to the track. Bogart make 18" lightweight wheels for the Camaro?

Bogart does make wheels designed just for the camaro, But the wheels and tires are going to cost you 3,500-4,000$ If you just occasionally go to the track you can have 305's on widened rims for 1,000$ I have the Bogarts for the track and run the Nitto 305's on the street
