Installed bluetooth onstar module. Question:

Found a bluetooth onstar module # 20842731 on ebay and won the auction!

Installed the box today. This thread was a big help:
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...ight=bluetooth

Everything works like a charm. But now I have one question:

I bought a steering wheel with the audio/bluetooth controls and installed it as well. But I hadn't my BCM updated.

How can I store phonenumbers and name tags via radio? I know that you need to press and hold the phone button for 2 seconds. But if I do this nothing happens.

Is this because I didn't activate Onstar?

Activating Onstar has nothing to do with bluetooth working.

Only two things I can think of.

1) Need to buy and install the PDIM that communicates between the BCM and the controls (there are 2 different PDIMs, 1 for cars without C&C package and 1 for cars with the C&C package. You might need to buy the PDIM for cars WITH the C&C package which is $300 plus tax).
2) Need to program the BCM first before it to recognize the new controls.

I would try the BCM first but it'll still cost you about $100 for the dealer to reprogram it.

There was another thread about a guy who tried to get the steering wheel controls to work. I forgot what he finally had to do and I can't find the thread.

Thanks Draco.

My dealer already ordered the BCM update from GM and it is ready for download.

I was just hoping to be able to start bluetooth/voice dialing/ name tagging without the steeringwheel controls.

I think you can use the "Phone" button on the radio to do it but I wouldn't worry about it right now if you are getting the BCM updated as doing so just might erase the name tags and numbers you just stored in the BCM.

Yes - but now I can only dial numbers via the radio knob. It seems like you can't start voice recognition without the steering wheel control.
