SS Badges
Has anyone asked why GM did not place the SS badge more prominently on the car instead of that big chevy logo. I really liked the way they looked on the older chevelles and camaros.
Also what will be the differences to distinguish a high powered SS model from the others. With the older chevelles and Camaros there was no doubt that you were looking at a Super Sport. Thanks Guys, Steve |

SS models have SS badging and the mail-slot hood scoop. And a different bumper.

Cost is a big factor I'm sure, but V8's aren't exactly socially acceptable right now, so subtlety is the order.
You'll be able to tell an SS from a V6 by the small SS badges front and rear, different front facia with "mail slot" opening, Brembo brakes, and larger exhaust outlets. Oh, and that glorious V8 rumble. |

Well look at it this way. There's (probably) a greater portion of the population that prefers subtle over gaudy. If you prefer to show off your "SS" with more badges, it's only a matter of adding the badges. If GM had decided to paste large badges all over the car, someone who didn't like them would have had a costly process of removing them and repairing the factory mountings.
I think they did right with the badging. |

Don't forget. People will be able to tell you have a V8 in your car when you stomp on the gas and leave them sitting in the dust. Well, the V6 may do that do, but the V8 will sound a lot better!

Plus I would rather not have someone pull up to me and know I am an SS. Anytime the pull up next to a Camaro they do not know what they are in for.

I need to get a car sold too...I guess we won't need a 5-seater Envoy once I'm off to college...

Apparently this has come up before. I am not a fan of those big "Bow Ties", kind of like putting a huge big blue oval on the grill off a GT or Shelby mustang.

I was just thinking about the SS badge deal last night. I think it's a corporate identity thing. I remember reading an article about how all the car companies' grille emblems are getting larger...kinda like having an identity crisis. If you look at most of today's cars, they are all starting to look the SAME. How do you make your product stand out? Put a huge corporate logo in the center of the grille. Now, I realize the Camaro does not suffer from a lack of style, but I think GM decided they want everyone that is uneducated in the Camaro legend to know just who built this stylish ride. I personally dislike the large bowtie, I will find a way to put an old-school SS logo on the center of the grill and tail panel.

Badging was never that important to me. I'd rather it only be noticeable to those that are educated enough to figure it out if they want to. The other reason badging is not important to me is because, just as it was in the old days on chevelle's and camaro's, it won't be long before you see SS badges on non-SS Camaro's.

Hey War Eagle: Welcome to the family.
It's my understanding that the 1SS will have white letters and the 2SS/RS will have red letters. And, as other have said, the big bowtie is to let everyone know it's a US Brand...Chevrolet. I've posted before that my 2SS/RS will keep all of it's original badging including the GM "chiklets" on the front fenders. My Dad was a tool & die worker for 40 years with GM (Fisher Body). I'm going to promote that logo with pride. Former Rides: 1966 Chevelle (1971 to 2007) 1970 Chevelle (1974 to 1991) Next Ride: 2SS/RS Red Jewel Tint Black Rally Stripes 20" Polished Wheels |
