What a year . . . (2008)
A lot has happened in the last year. We've had countless new members, doubled the size of the 'mod squad' and we learned an awful lot of information about our beloved Camaro.
To think, just a year ago we were still drooling over spyshots of cars with the headlights from autozone that were held in with hot glue and duck tape. And with every new set of spyshots, someone asked about the gas-cap, or b-pillar, or of course, the headlights. Lets see, there was the black and white Camaros, the pale yellow one, the winter testing ones, the nurburgring one, the ones that showed up at LAX, the pre-pro interior, and many more. Early in the year we saw a couple of 'interesting' pictures. One was of a rope hanging out of the trunk, and the other simply proclaimed 'SHUNT IN TRUNK'. That kicked off one of the most epic series of threads on this site, and confused a lot of new members. We were also told that we would hear some special news late in the summer. When those specs were revealed, there were some who were disappointed by the weight, others by the price, but very few were worried about power or potential for these cars. On top of that, were were also told that there would be a great gathering of Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts at Indy in September. Those who went kept the rest of us informed about how things went. Even going so far as to take video's of the show car interior. The car magazines also had their first taste of the new Camaro this summer. They were universally impressed, by the V6 none the less. The general consensus is that if the V6 is that good, the SS will be utterly amazing. Moving on into the fall, things kept going when GM allowed us to start placing our orders. Within 10 weeks, 10 000 orders have been placed at a time when car sales are down, credit is tight, and gas prices are unpredictable. Which brings me to the darker side of this year. Massive drops in sales hurt every automaker and GM and Chrysler, 'ancient' rivals from Detroit began talking about merging and once that idea was shut down, they began asking for billions of dollars worth of loans. At the last minute they got most of what they were asking for, in exchange for a lot of concessions. But that was 2008. Shortly we will be hearing what the magazines have to say about the SS. Hundreds of members here will be receiving their orders while thousands of others patiently wait for circumstances to allow them the car of their dreams. The aftermarket will be giving us their products to enhance the power, handling, and appearance of the Camaro for those who don't think GM gave the car quite enough. Personally, I'm wondering how many months it will be until we see a 5th gen in the 11's. I wish everyone a happy new year.

The Shunt saga was hilarious...I was still just lurking on the site while that was happening...kept me amused for hours.
Happy new year everyone!

Well said. On top of that, I would like to thank the Mods and all the members for making the last couple of months and years bearable. I don't think I could have had half of the information or occupied my overanxious mind if I had never stumbled onto this site. Thanks for the discussions - some funny and some heated. I appreciate the fact that we have lots of different opinions and perspectives on here. That is what makes this site and life great.
While some may feels like something is coming to an end (the seemingly endless wait) it is really just the beginning. I can't imagine the excitement when members start posting threads like "I PICKED MINE UP TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" (yes, that's 15 ! so people will not ignore the post). And don't forget the buzz that this one will cause "Finally a real picture of CGM". And then a whole new type of anticipation will fill the site while members wait not so patiently for their car to be built and arrive. And after every member gets their car? I see thread upon thread about how Scotty sold another 50 Camaros this month or Spike smoked a Mustang GT or how zebra blew the doors off a ricer or how some crazy chick painted the top part of her Camaro pink. No, this is just the beginning my friends and I can't wait to be on here to see what happens next!
