Vinyl Racing Stripes? or Painted stripes any opinions on which to go with? - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

I'm really thinking about putting matte black stripes on my 2SS but don't rather to go with the vinyl or just get it painted. help me out with your opinions anybody?

If you are going Matte, I'd just put the vinyl on.

+1 i like the vinyl because it can be changed much easier if you want to go with a different look

Have you ever had any problems with the vinyl? like after a couple of car washes does it fade out or begin to peel?

I have Matte Black vinyl and it looks bad-assed!! Get you some Adams Clear polish and use it just like wax. It will keep them looking new and best of all its UVA protectant!!

mines been fine even used a power washer on them same with my friend who has matte black stripes.. just don't go for the cheap ebay stripes get something decent $250+

I put the OE vinyl CGM stripes on my IOM. After a year of washing they still look perfect. I was considering paint at first, but figured I can always take the vinyl off if I want to change. But I'm leaving them on, they look great.

The key is - hand wash only, soft cotton mitt. And keep the wax away from the edges. I've seen other Camaros where the stripes edges look terrible, but I can tell from the swirls and scratches - those cars have been through many automatice car washes.

Find a color you like and get them painted. My vinyl stripes (factory) took some nasty damage from a small rock that hit it. It would have been something easily buffed out if they were painted. If $ is not an issue paint them on. I am very happy with my new painted stripes and I dont have to avoid them when waxing the car.

Vinyl--------- cheaper and last well------ If a rock hits it, you get a new piece not paint whole hood........ GM use them...... why not you?

Not real sure what you are trying to say here. The dude wants to know if he should paint the stripes or get vinyl. As I said, I have two cars. One with vinyl stripes and one with painted stripes. Both are factory (the painted stripes are on my ZL camaro). I much prefer the painted stripes. Now the man that asked the question has a view from someone with experience with both and hopefully can make a better decision.
