Newbie with Auto vs. Manual ?
Hi guys,
I've done a search on the power difference between the auto and manual, and I'm coming up empty. My plans were to go to the dealership tomorrow to pick up an auto. But after reading that the auto has 26hp less than the manual, I'm now a little stumped on what to do. I know auto's typically make less rwhp, but I have never heard of a motor having a different hp rating due to a tranny. Can someone tell me if there is a significant performance difference between the 2? |

the l99 has a lower compression and a less aggressive cam as well and loses more because of the auto tranny

I can attest to that. I test drove both. With manual u have more control of the power in my opinion. I love the manual in this car accept for the stock shifter but its not that bad. Plan on buying a short throw for even more fun

The HP difference is because the engines are two different engines I'm guessing, auto is the L99 and manual is the LS3, a former Corvette engine. As far as if they raced I'm not too sure on that but I think think that are pretty close.

If you are going to tune and mod your car don't let the HP numbers be the deciding factor. Tune on the Autos really wakes them up.
If you plan to stay stock then you might want the extra horses the manual provides. |

The next one I get will be an Auto for sure. They are fast as hell off the line because of the gearing. And after a tune forget about it, the LS3 won't touch it ... IMO

the manual is a true LS engine from the corvette. It is much more able to be modified and improved. The auto is a beefed up Envoy engine. A TRUE muscle car = manual. But auto comes in a close second!

Its been stated many times... Manual drivers have bigger penises, get more women and live a better quality of life Then manual=respect and control, auto=anyone(including my wife, mainly why I went manual) can drive

You guys made mention of the shifter, i of course got the manual. Now i am not sure i understand by a "throw"?
Takes longer to get in gear? For example, right now until my car gets here i am driving a Cobalt SS/SC, how different will be the shifting? assuming anyone here has ever driven one. |

The throw will be very short in a Camaro for tighter, quicker shifting. An example; I have a Jeep Wranger, where the throw is at least 10 inches, where as a the throw in a Camaro would only be about 2 or 3.
