UPGRADE: Gears or Clutch

So, I've done enough upgrades to have about 550hp / 470rwhp, and can handle the power quit nicely as well due to basic suspension mods. But, now I'm not sure if I want gears or a new clutch.

In my basic knowledge I think the clutch will allow me to rev higher and drop clutch for street type drag racing, and don't have to worry about breaking clutch up, but, the gears will tranfer torque much better to the rear for that neck snapping force to get higher speeds more quickly in lower gears.

What would you do?

Clutch for sure. Although with 550, I'd consider new trans-axles too..

I'm thinking that may be necessary after a few more power mods, still learning so probably quite some time before I have to be overly concerned about breaking those.

This should be a no brainer. Clutch for sure to hold the power you are already making. Why put gears on your car if they are more prone to breaking and are weaker than stock pieces? Once you get the Maggie your not going to like the gears anyway unless you just dont like moving surrounded by alot of smoke. lol

my car has been at mid 700 rwhp and my stock clutch never broke. it loved me long time. do the gears.
chevy over-engineered the clutch. the first things to break before the clutch is axles and/or diff.
at your horsepower level, changing the clutch is a waste of money.

my 411's are also great on the highway, 1950 rpms at 70 miles per hour.

be a man, do 4.11's and enjoy the accelerational orgasm.

GEARS

in my experience the clutch acts a lot better with 4.10's. I wouldn't do the clutch until the stock one is shot. I'm guessing that people saying "do the clutch" do NOT have 4.10's in their cars.

I've read alot about some folks breaking their gears, however not sure about the aftermarket gears being more prone to breaking, most professionals I've spoken to beleive simply there may be a bad batch going around, or bad installs. Typically, the materials used for the stock and aftermarket gears are similar, and Richmond are the authority in this area.
That's why I posted this question, I'm not having any issues with my clutch currently, and not really understanding what a really strong clutch would give me at this point, that the stock one doesn't, but with gears the performance gains are instant.

Gears and sticky tires now. Clutch after it gets toasted!
