Do you void your warranty?

Hey guys, so im kinda running up against a moral dilemma.

The car is so brand new, its literally 3 days old to me, 2011 2ss rs camaro, fresh off the lot with just a few hundred miles (had to drive it to get it here).

I want to do all types of modifications, cams, supercharger, ECU, etc etc.. But most will void the warranty.

Obviously you all have the GM warranty, with (at the oldest) a car thats like 2 years old.

How do you justify voiding the warranty on such a brand new car? Whats your thought process? "Who cares about a warranty", "ill put the stock parts back on before I take it in", "I have enough money to blow on a new engine if it breaks", etc etc.

I think you pretty much answered your own question. I haven't dealt with any warranty stuff but from reading here GM seems pretty tight about it.

I had a Mustang before, and if you used Ford parts(cams, supercharger) and had a dealer install you kept your warranty. Sounds like thats not the case for GM.

I guess you just play the odds and hope for the best.

Was asking basically if you guys find ways to keep the warranty, or just flat out void it.

yeah, I really want to supercharge it, but I hate knowing that it would just void it right off the bat :(

Could've bought an SLP right off the lot. Already done and warrantied. I sort of care, My mods are relatively minor and probably walk the line. If an SC blows your engine, it was probably going to break anyway.

It's easy....

in the next 100,000 miles that you plan on having your car, do you plan on keeping it stock? Doubtful..... so you already know that you plan on voiding your warranty.... it's all a matter of when.

Next question

What would you rather drive....a stock camaro, or a modded camaro? Modded... duuhh

So you know you would have more fun driving your camaro modded... you know you are going to void the warranty eventually..... why not void it now and have more time having fun with your car?

This is all assuming that your camaro is not your only vehicle. If it is.... keep the warranty. lol.

And... if something breaks under warranty, you may get it fixed under warranty. If it breaks afterwards, you know you won't.

Please do a search on "warranty". Lots a good stuff.

Btw, No warranty has ever been voided in the history of cars. They may deny a claim here and there, however, but they have to show a connection to your mod / install as the cause.

Not worth the risk to me, car is plenty powerful enough and it's not going to see a
1/4 mile track in its life.

All cosmetic and cat-back mods for me on the slate, nothing more.

It's really based on your dealer. My dealer told me I am fine. If I do any major upgrades like a supercharger then I am not going to keep the waranty but headers, CAI, exhaust and custom tune. They do not care.

WRONG: Headers, CAI, exhaust are OK.
Do any tune and your factory power train warranty is gone. It's not up to your dealer- It's up to GM who's paying for the warranty work.

Not so sure about this one. The dealer doesn't pay for warranty claims. GM pays, so its up to GM not the dealers.

If the headers, CAI, exhaust and custom tune have anything to do with the warranty claim, it will be rejected by the dealer because it will be rejected by GM. You can have the most awesome, enthusiast-friendly dealership in the world, but unless they lie to GM, they will refuse you if GM refuses them.

I am a "leave it alone" guy when it comes to mine. If it turns out to be a lemon I want warranty coverage

Most places that sell SC have a warranty to go along with it. I know T&T Performance has like 3 years on all their installed parts. That being said, if you get a tune you void warranty. PERIOD anything else such as catback, CAI, catch can, etc you can probably finagle your way to getting it covered under warranty.
