Camaro vs GM Nationals

I think most everyone has heard by now that the Camaro Nationals will not be held at Carlisle with the GM Nationals this year. They will be in Fredrick Maryland on the same weekend.
Carlisle has added Camaro classes to the GM Nationals, so we are now forced to choose which show to go to.

I am curious which show everyone is going to and why.

I haven't fully committed to either one yet, but I'm leaning towards Carlisle.
I have friends that have Impalas, Buicks and Pontiacs and we have a real fun time going out to dinner each night and hanging out in the hotel parking lot till late at night. Not to mention all the other activities at the fairgrounds.
I expect the Camaro group will also put on a good show and I'm starting to develope some pretty good friendships there too.
I'm torn and it sucks they are on the same weekend or I'd go to both.

I'm also curious which show all the vendors and the GM execs, like Sheryl Piltcher and John Fitzpatrick will be going to.

Camaro National's will be a chance for Camaro enthusiasts to have their own gathering set apart from other makes or models, much like the Corvette does. Anyone ever notice how few Corvette's show up at the GM Nationals?

I appreciate everyone's reply so far.
I'm not sure why it's important to have a Camaro only show.
I like walking around and seeing what people do with other models.
Both shows will work out fine on their own, but I think it's a better show with all the GM cars there together.
Since they are splitting up, I'd like to experience both.
Too bad they are on the same weekend.
Boy, I feel like a kid of divorced parents and I can't decide which one to stay with for the weekend.

I guess I'll be the odd man out. I will be at Carlisle. I've been going there for well over twenty years and it's right in my back door. I think it would get boring looking at the same model of car after awhile. I love the corvette ,but when they have the corvette show at Carlisle it gets a little old looking at rows and rows and rows of them. That might be just me though I'm sure some of you love it.

I would have made plans to go to both if they were on different days, but since my brother and I go every year and he brings his Firebird, we'll be going to Carlisle with the 4th gens...

Our club did a vote using an on-line survey. Camaro Nat. won 3 to 1 over GM Nat. Personally, I would rather go to Carlisle because there are other makes there and I'm convinced that very few, if any, vendors will be at Frederick. Hope I'm wrong. Anyway, from what I've read, according to the head of the Maryland Camaro Club, was that the GM Nationals sprang up from the Camaros at Carlisle event. Over the years it got to the point where a rift developed between Carlisle Events and the American Camaro Assoc. over control of certain aspects of the show. Due to this, the ACA decided not to renew their contract with Carlisle Events and asked the Maryland Camaro Club to sponsor a new Camaro Nationals event next year. They did it the same weekend because the Camaro Nationals has always been that weekend and they didn't feel they should be the ones to change. Sorry for attempting to paraphrase, but this has been discussed in several threads on here. Hopefully, they will be able to resolve these differences and be back together in 2012. Both the president of the MCC and at least one officer of Carlisle Events are members here. Maybe they will see this thread and post some more light into the subject.

Before camaro nationals at carlisle we had a camaro national show run for years by the International Camaro Club (ICC). they would hold the show the same weekend every year but the hotel would change every year. Then when they went away for what I think was 1 or 2 years some of those members got together and formed American Camaro assoc. That was when it started at Carlisle (1999). They were there for quite a few years before carlisle productions wanted to add GM nationals. So the camaro nationals have been around since I think 1990 or earlier.

I first went to the Camaro Nationals put on by the ICC in the Pocono's in
1989. It was there before that, but I don't know how many years. When ICC folded after the 1997 show, I was one of the people that started the American Camaro Association in 1998. We had the first Camaro Nationals (Camaros@Carlisle) in 1999 also know as Summer Carlisle. That was the least attended event at Carlisle and they wanted something to draw more people. After they started calling it the GM Nationals, Camaro's drew more Cars than the rest of the GM cars. Good luck to the MCC with the Camaro Nationals. That is the place to be.

You do know that Firebirds are welcome to come to the Camaro Nationals as well? We will be having participant vote awards for the Firebirds this year along with all the awards for the Camaros.

The history explained above is pretty accurate.

We are currently working on vendors and if you have any you would like to see or contacts for same, please send me a PM here.
