Watch it Mates, RS Stripe Damage

Watch it Mates, this could happen to you if you live in a snow state.
I went to pick up my car last Sat. (12/11) and this is what I found.
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/album....ictureid=40486
It seems that when the stripe was applied at Ground Effects LTD., Water was still under the edge and when they parked it outside for transport back to the factory, it froze.
Now when it gets to the dealership they go to wash it and the edge of the stripe tears off.
Of course they are going to replace it, but thought you may want to watch it if you live in a snow state and drive your C5 all year long.

That's crazy. You'd think a company that specializes in applying vinyl stripes would understand this phenomenon...

And, for those that don't want to click a link:

We've had two sets of stripes just "pop" off.

One was a cyber gray spoiler stripe.

The other was a cyber gray hockey stripe (fender/frt, bumper) on an LS.

Both popped off in the warm weather.

No explanation why but at least they were redone under warranty.

This is why I would never get vinyl stripes.

Paint em on!

Wow, that's too bad. It's almost as if the stripes shattered!

Yeah, that's exactly what it looks like.
The good thing is I got all repairs in writing and signed by the manager, because I'm not taking it back till spring.
The dealership was very apologetic and threw in some nice perks even though it was'nt their fault.
If I had it to do over I would have waited and had them painted on.
It would have save about two weeks getting it to me also.
Oh well, Live and Learn.

waxing my stripes

when i first got mine I waxed the stripes using turtle wax. It left a residue on the vinyl stripes thats still there to this day. the dealership said try using windex....didn't work. really annoying that from certain angles you can see the circles from the wax.

With the big storm we're having, I could uncover it and push it outside and you would never see the stripe at all, I would also have a all white car.

There is a special black vinyl reconditioning stuff made by mothers (I think) My dad had some and I tried it out. Looks great and keeps the black dark. I'll give my parents a call and get the brand and name...
