Wireless Woes

First, let me say that this is not a complaint or bash of these vendors. More so a bummer that it wasnt revealed earlier.

So I recently installed the wireless DRL harness from Fieldgoal. Love the product, it is very well made and works perfectly. I was really looking forward to using the "extra" channels on the wireless box for some other lighting that I have planned.

I also just received a bunch of AAC goodies, including the RGB knight rider scanner.

I couldnt wait to see the scanner work in person, so I hooked it up to a battery and tested it out. Again, great product, works perfectly!

But something made me decide to turn on the camaro, and the lights to see if the wireless controllers would interfere with each other....
Well, they DO. Both controllers use the same frequencies.

This could be bad... Turn on the DRL's with Halos, and turn on the red strobe scanner at the same time!

I am mostly dissapointed that I even asked both companies about this before I bought them and never really got an answer. But again, 2 products, 2 companies, it was bound to happen. Im not mad here at all, just bummed that there's no answer to the problem. I cant be the first to do this?!

But fear NOT, I am working on a solution. I should have the solution ready on Monday and will post it up once i've confirmed that it works.

That ends today's public service announcement!

Sorry to head about your luck. But glad to know you're working on a solution.

So after I have played around with this and spent more time than I care to think about.... Its done!

Here is the wireless setup from Fieldgoal. Its a simple 4 channel receiver/transmitter. It has the same frequencies as the RGB knight rider, AND the same frequencies as every other harness out there. Its going up for sale too, cause I dont need/want it.

Now here is my setup. It is still 4 channel, but it uses rolling codes (like a car alarm or garage door opener) and is damn near impossible to crack the code. The 4 pin connector is each channel, and the 2 pin is the hot/ground wires. I didnt get any pictures of the inside of the box, sorry! I bought the controller and the box seperately, and put everything together.

Now I had to run a relay to change the output of my controller to be compatible with the Fieldgoal harness. His setup uses the ground wire to open/close the circuit. My wireless setup uses the positive to open/close the circuit. So I put together this setup to make one output work for the harness.

The next channel I attached my RGB knight rider setup. This way it requires 2 remotes to turn it on.

Call me paranoid, but I had nightmares about that thing turning on on the road, without me knowing and attracting all sorts of LE interest! haha Or being able to "secure" my wireless when at a large event (C5festII) where there will be 100's of wireless transmitters, all able to control 100's of receivers. Dont want to kill my battery. :(

The 3rd channel I wired in several underhood wires for LED strips. So far I have only installed 1 in my CAI box. The others I will add in later, and they all will turn on with the same click of the button.

The 4th channel I am going to be adding in later on, probably for footwell lighting. I havent decided yet. But its ready to be added on and is ready to go.

Now I spent several days on this ( 1-2 hours a day, 3-4 beers per day ) haha, but could be done easily in a day. I had alot of parts and things around, so it didnt call me too much.

I will get some more pictures later on, showing where I put it, along with all my lighting upgrades!

Thanks for reading,

Jason
