***BBK long tube Headers***

I read in the Camaro Now Magazine and saw that they installed BBK long tube headers with High flow cats for the V6. I called them to verify that no tune is needed and they said that it isn't needed. Does anyone have this setup and did u get a tune?

I have the BBK long tubes and high flow cats, and no tune. it is not needed, but you will get a CEL. In which case a tune is needed to get rid of it, and may be able to tweak a little extra performance out of it. There are a few good threads about bbk headers/high flow cats and the dreaded CEL. I think OUR BEE started one or two good threads.

Yeah no tune is actually required. But recommended non the less, and if you can get away with long tubes and not get the dreaded CEL, then you'd be a lucky person! There is one member I know of on here that said he avoided the CEL with long tubes, but he, nor anyone else can think of why his car is not throwing the CEL???

I would love to be able to throw on LTs without a tune (maily cuz I don't want to spend another 600 bucks!!), but we'll see if/when that time comes.

Speaking of the Camaro Now article...did they do a nice write up on it and the outcome? I'd be curious to see the power it picked up and a dyno would be awsome too! If you could somehow post the story that would be awsome....thanks.

If you going to the Long tube, then you better get a tune for that CEL, otherwise there no point of the headers.

Me too. That is what is holding me back from the LT's. I am not ready to spend another 600 for the tune.

As for the article I could scan it and post it but not sure that is to legal to do. So here are the numbers they claim from their dyno pulls.

"In stock form, our test Camaro laid down an impressive 251.5 RWHP and 233.4 lb-ft of torque. With the addition of the BBK long-tube headers and high-flow cats, we saw an impressive gain of 21.8 RWHP and 14.8 lb-ft of torque, bringing total horsepower to 273.3 and torque to a stout 248.2"

Hrmm...well i was thinking of someone else...so it must be TWO!! So I know you have LTs, but I thought you had a tune! heck, at this point its hard for me to keep track of everyone's setups lol. So no tune and no CEL? awsome! How'd you get so lucky?

Disagree.

Wow...nice! Would love to see the dyno so I could see what kind of TQ gains it got down lower. Did the magazine post a dyno shot? If so, don't worry about scanning and posting if you don't want..I'd just be curious to see what it did around 3,000 and 5,000 rpm ranges.

I can also second that as well...on top of not wanting to spend $600. Yes I've heard the dealerships either won't, or can't check for a tuned V6 camaro, but I'd be so mindlessly mad/frustrated/dissapointed/bummed if I got a tune and my motor crapped out, and GM refused to cover it while it SHOULD have been in it's warranty period.

Well actually I have the tune, your right but I got that AFTER I got the LTs on to get more hp and correct my timing issues. Vince never had to make a correction for a CEL. But yep I got lucky!

I still don't know why none of you LT header guys have tried the spark plug extender trick to cure the CEL. It works on 95% of every other type car and they cost a measly $3 at Autozone....

you talking about the nonfoulers, right? yeah, that's been tried, by at least two members here. As well as doubling up on them. And buying SOLO's extenders, still doesn't work. This camaro is in the 5% that doesn't work.
