What Octane to run?!?

I assume 93 octane is the best to run on? I am not sure if 87 89 91 or 93 has any affect on performance. Any of you guys or girls have any knowledge? Thanks!

I only run the 91 pump octane......you may encounter engine ping if you run less.

just my 2 cents....

SS manual days to run at least 91. That being said I have found that not all fas stations carry 91. Most have 87, 89, 93. So I run 93.

High octane not deliver higher power but a high octane limits 'knock' at high RPM. (high octane prevent self-ignition at high RPM)

If you run less than 91 octane, the engine management system will revert to the "low octane" table for ignition. It's done to protect the engine from knock and it drops the power output of the engine. The problem is that the EMS doesn't reset to the higher table when 91 or higher octane is run through the engine. Check out the sticky thread at the top of the page for more info on the power loss and what needs to be done to reset to the "high octane" table.

87 octane regular gas.

Actually one of the reasons I bought the V6 was because it does not need nor does it require the more expensive fuel.

IF YOUR CAMARO HAS THE V8 THEY RECOMMEND YOU RUN SUPER UNLEADED. IF YOU HAVE A V6 YOU'LL BE FINE WITH REGULAR UNLEADED. IF ANY QUESTIONS CHECK YOUR OWNER'S MANUAL.

It may not REQUIRE or NEED 93, However, it has been proven by a few here on the forum that timing is pulled when running with 87, and with that so is the HP. So if you want everything your V6 has to offer you should look to run 93.

Now all that said if what the "EXPERTS" say is correct and gas goes to $4, it will be nice knowing I can run 87 and give up those few ponies.

My 2010 2SS with manual trans runs fine on regular 87 octane gas with no detectable engine ping......with premium gas at a 23 cent premium, that works for me. I originally used premium fuel & did not notice any difference when switching to regular.
