camaro shifter

i have the camaro shifter and i tried to install it but it will not let me key out the ignition. i wanted to know if it was something else to do. i put the factory one back on and it let the key go. i have an automatic too.

Yep, I had the same problem. Just make sure you have some lock-tite handy. Then take out both set screws. Take the shifter a part and install base first, put a dap of lock-tite on the set screw and tighten it just snug, don't over tighten. Do the same with the shifter. If your key don't come out you have tightened it to tight. I love mine, but it can be a pain in the ass to install. Hope this helps.

Not sure what kind of shifter you have but there is a switch that prevents the key from coming out if not disengaged. It is usually caused by the release mechanism not going up all the way. With the shifter installed and key on tou should hear the interlock clicking when you engage or disengage the release mechanism. There is a photo of it on one of my shifter pages.

The screw should be able to be tightened adequately if not the screw may be too long if so it will cause the release mechanism to bind.

I am not familiar with that particular shifter but if it cannot be tightened all the way it may be too long. Here is a better photo, when the screw is too long it will bind against the black plastic piece with the triangle on top, it may need a slightly shorter screw.
