Mine is losing its look like the color is fading so I'm thinking of taking it out and painting it black

does angyone know how to remove it??

i was thinking about doing the same thing , but im pretty sure that thread u linked doesnt show how to take the ring off ( we are talking about taking chrome ring off right ?)

No it dos not, but you need to take the air bag off to do it, and if you look at the second to last pic you see all the clips that hold the ring on to the air bag.

yeah you can't take that off. You can take the whole thing off as a unit and tape everything off and paint it. Or you could leave it on, tape stuff off and try to do it delicately by hand. Taking it off is not gonna happen though.

I took the air bag off when I switched my steering wheel bezels. Once you disconnect the battery and let it drain off for ten or so minutes it doesn't take more than 30 min to take it off and put it back on.
