Good luck. You may have a better chance finding a needle in a haystack.

When I was in HS, some chick I worked with that was a few years older had a Z exactly as I described. I had a '79 Silver RS w/ 350 4bbl. auto at the time ('84). I loved that car, but the parental units hated it. My mom now regrets making me sell it.

My first brand new car was a dark carmine metallic 1979 Z28, black vinyl interior and it came with hideous red/orange/yellow stripes which I promptly removed. All I could afford was a base Z28, 4 speed, 3.73 posi rear, no a/c, no radio, if I remember correctly p/s and p/b were standard. I think the car was around $6500 with tax ( NY ). Car was a piece of junk from the factory, within 7K miles I had pulled the motor and built a 350/350 for it, straightened out the exhaust, installed better shocks, installed an AM/FM tape player and painted several body panels to fix the factory installed dings and shoddy paint work. When I was done with it a year later it was an OK car but I was never happy with it and sold it 2 years later. I'm sure glad my 2010 SS/RS is a far better car quality wise than that '79 was. However, it sure was a chick magnet, along with my Harley Lowrider.

I have a 79 Z28 for sale. It is a triple black car. I am re-painting it right now, if you want it I will paint it what ever color you want and stripe it for you or you can buy it as is and finish it yourself.
All stock engine except for the Edelbrock intake and carb. The car has all good sheetmetal on it. There are two softball size holes on the front lower rear panels, I already have the patches for it, they just need to be welded in and its next on the list. I see this as a solid $6,000 + car when its finished, I've seen 79 z28's going for 12,000+ days. Its is a true z28, not a clone. Be careful lost of clones out there now, the vin tells if its a real z28. The seats from my 99 Camaro SS are going in it as well.

The 1979 Camaro set a sales record with 282,582 Camaros produced, including a record 84,877 Z28's.

The 79 z28 VIN should have a 2nd digit Q and a 5th digit L
The original build sheet might be still under the back seat

Vehicle Identification Example: 1Q87G9N500001
First digit is GM Division: 1 = Chevrolet
Second digit is model: Q = Sport Coupe, Rally Sport and Z28, S = Berlinetta
Digits 3 & 4 are body type: 87 = 2dr. coupe
Fifth digit is engine code: D = 250ci, G = 305ci, L = 350ci
Sixth digit is model year: 9 = 1979

Everything is for sale Here is a link to my Endless Dream - www.camaroshowcar.com

They are out there - good luck finding one.
