Thumbs up iPod Nano (6th Gen)

After trying out several USB media solutions with my camaro (phones, media players, usb drives, usb flash drives, etc.), I have finally found one that actually surpasses my expectations. That device is the 6th Gen iPod Nano. It just.. plain.. works. I have had all kinds of issues with devices from ridiculous indexing times to Unsupported Data errors and disappearing songs in playlists. And I am happy to say that I am experiencing none of those issues with this device. The only down side is that it is an Apple device.. and it hurts my soul a little to thing that the best device for me is an Apple product:(. But if it works... Here is the break down:

The Goods:
  • Nonexistant indexing time - This is a biggee. The thing I noticed as soon as I got the device working was that I had no indexing. As soon as the device was picked up I could start searching through the music. The only times I have seen the dreaded "Indexing..." is when there was a problem with the device (initially I loaded the music improperly)
  • Form Factor - Although it is not as small as a microSD card with reader, it is really small and has the added benefit of being useful as a stand alone music device. It takes up very little space in the compartment.
  • Playlist resume - Although other devices would start back playing where I left off on the last song, they would forget where I was in my playlist or album. This is not a problem on the Nano. As a matter of fact you can take the device out of the vehicle, continue playing the same playlist with your headphones, reconnect it and it will pick back up where you left off with your headphones. That blew my mind.
  • Easy issue resolution - On the one time that I have had any issues with the device working with radio all it took was 20 seconds to do a reset on the Nano to fix the issue. This I love since I often spent several hours to no avail trying to fix issues with other devices.
THE BAD:
  • Expensive - at $150 retail for the 8GB and $180 for the 16GB its not the cheapest solution
  • It's an Apple product - prepare to have your soul sting a little if you are falling off the Apple-Hate wagon

Exactly what I keep in my car. Also, I agree with all your points.
