Pros less HP stolen by static pull.
Con you Ac and alternator will turn slower. slight more hp for slight less AMP form your alternator and A/C pump. hope you understand that. |

The under drive pulley never sounded that exciting to me for that reason. All your belt driven accessories will run more poorly. The mod may be cheap, but it has too many negatives for me to really want to use it. But, I'm not knocking anybody who uses one. A strong AC just happens to be a priority of mine!

It can free up some horsepower, but not a good idea on a daily driver, in my opinion.

Years ago I had a 73 SS with all the fixings. Every single time I would hammer it she would throw a belt. I'm not a fan of aftermarket pulleys

Thousands of guys run these on LS cars with no problem. Yes it turns the accessories slower and probably not ideal if you are running a big stereo system or other accessories driven by the alternator. However, most guys are doing with with camshaft installs where the idle is already higher thus the accessories aren't really driven that much slower. It frees up another 7-8 hp for about $200. Not a bad gain for the money. I have yet to see a car that actually has a problem due to having a UD pulley on it.

I did the 25% reduction pulley after a cam exchange. It makes sense how you would gain HP, but the amount is questionable. In 9 years, Ive never had a problem with it, but my electrical system is stock except for 1100x driving lamps.
You have to remove the stock pulley when your doing a cam exchange, so the labor is none. If I would do it again, I doubt Id spend the money in that direction for the gains, but I do think there are gains. Phil |

Not highly recomended but if you're wanting to do it, this would be the perfect time since the stock one is already off. That is why TT said that labor would be ZERO.

No, not from the pulley alone.

It's a good time to do it along with a cam swap because the pulley is already off the car. I would definitely do it if I were doing a cam swap. $200 for 8 RWHP isn't bad either.

When talking about reliability, is it an upgrade or something you could have problems with over the stock pulley?

I have never seen an issue caused by an underdrive pulley other than a charge issue. If you did need it, you could run the overdrive alternator pulley and I don't see how it could hurt anything at all.
