Disabling DRL - BCM Function Delete

Has anyone had any luck accomplishng this yet? There was a member here stating it could be done i believe thru programming the bcm chip. Tho it required it be removed from car and mailed to him.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal to not have them on, or have the headlights on.
Synergy Green is going to attract a cops attention, having the DRL's disabled might get you a ticket.

Oh I will have my dual headlight halos on and the dual foglight halos on. Just don't want the hid headlights detracting from the look during the day.

its not illegal to not have them , most new cars dont have them . I heard that if you buy a new vehicle before you get it you can ask them to disable it , gm that is and they are supposed to . Im calling bs but someone on one of the monte carlo forums had a paper that stated this .

The laws are different in Canada. All new cars in Canada are mandated to have daytime running lights.

Same here in the US. We can only disable them for law enforcement vehicles, & need a letter stating so before getting approval from GM to get a revised bcm calibration to disable them.

I just turn on the halos (thus shutting off the DRLs). They look great anytime of day!

Doesn't work on Cdn cars. If it's day light outside, the DRL's stay on.

Like anything controlled by the computer it can be programmed out. However, it is illegal on all newer cars in Ontario to run without them. The Camaro Halos don't put out enough light to act as the DRLs. What you "could" do is have them programed so the manual override shut-off (spring loaded counter-clockwise click on the lights knob) actually shuts them off and leaves them off. Cars destined for some states have this feature. But for areas that require DRLs the spring loaded function to the left is disabled. Someone told me once that doing that required actual re-wiring of the switch. If you go this route you didn't hear it from me. It's still technically illegal in Ontario. But dig around on the various forums. You'll find what you're looking for.

Do you really think a cop would pull you over for your halo's not putting out enough light though? I mean... it is a light, that will be on during the day... If this was the case they would be rolling all the imported american camaros and ticketing them..

I'd like to be able to see someone mod it so that the Day time running lights along with halos can be on in the evening and at night if by choice with the option to have the night lights off. This would be good for well lit areas as the running lights and halos put out enough light to let others know your on coming.

Well you did luck out then my friend. Technically on import they are supposed to cover the DRL requirements in your inspection and I know people who have failed that inspection b/c the DRLs did not function to Cdn spec. But, if I were you I'd point to that inspection pass if I were ever ticketed.

People have been known to be pulled over for less (and not pulled over for more). It is very true - they do have bigger fish to fry. I didn't state that the OP'r "would" be pulled over - I merely stated what the Ontario laws are. See my above comment re: imported Camaros (and other cars). Upon importation all vehicles to be registered to a Canadian address must first pass a vehicle safety inspection administered by the related provincial transportation ministry.
