Question How often to balance wheels?

Hi all,

I'm just wondering how often I need to have my wheels balanced. I have a set of summer tires on rims and a set of winter tires on wheels, should I reblanace them every time I change them?

Thanks!

No, once a set of tires/wheels has been balanced once, they should be good. That is until you remove the tires from the wheels again. Or unless some of the weights have fallen off.

Good to know, thanks.

What would be a typical indicator that I need re-balancing? Vibration? Noise? Something else?

Yes, usually a vibration.

Tires will go out of balance. You can flat spot them on braking or accel...or just plain wear. Rebalance as needed and some tires are bad from the get go and a good tire shop will replace if a balancing issue is there.

I am lucky as we have a shop here that high speed balances the tires on the car/truck with a strobe. It balances the tire, wheel and rotors etc...if needed they can true the tires to fix flat spots etc...like driving on glass if you can find such a shop that knows what they are doing...must mark the wheel/tires when you take them off for work so to put them back on the same stud/location as balanced. Next best balance I have found is the road force at DC tire.

on all my pickups I have used equal to balance my tires - they never go out of balance. (the stuff semi trucks use to balance their tires)

but on the Camaro, I would imagine stick-on weights once with new tires and rebalance if its ever needed.
