Hawaii Question

Ever since I've joined this forum, I've realized it's not just about Camaro questions and advice, but general advice as well. So I am reaching out to the Camaro5 group:

I am looking for some suggestions for a trip to Hawaii. My parents 30th anniversary is coming up in September. My dad was out of work for 14 months, and just recently found a new job. They are still trying to catch up. My dad's dream has been to take my mom to Hawaii for their 30th, but realizes he can't with their current situation. My brother, sister, and I want to surprise them with a trip in September. I have never been, and no one in my family has been either. They would be looking for something relaxing, close to the beach, with some touristy stuff but not too crowded or party-crazy. Any suggestions?????

Maui is an excellent choice as it has a plethora of things for you to do. Golfing, relaxing, snorkeling, hiking, para-sailing, etc.

depending on what he's into.....I highly recommend a trip out to the Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor.

+1 - All of the above.

Arizona Memorial a must. - don't know if they still do it, take the last tour of the day, they lower the flag and blow taps.

Maui - one of the most beautiful places in the world!

I have been lucky enough to have visited the Islands 9 times. Been to every one and done it all. Our favorite is Kauai, very quiet. Maui is a good mix. Oahu is a don't stay for too long place. Our last trip over there was on a cruise, and I thought it would be nice for first timers because you get to sample a little of everything. Please PM me if I can help with more details. Good luck and congrats to the parents, especially for raising such great kids!

Maui - You will need to make advance reservations for the "Old Lahina" luau well before they get there. It is the only one I would suggest they go to and it is VERY popular.

Aquarium.

Bike Ride down from the top of the volcano is a coast all the way down and takes half a day. You have to get up VERY early for the bus ride up to the top but the sunrise makes it worth the effort.

You can drive up the coast to Hana and stop along the way to see the jungle sights.

We stayed in kehei and had a view of the volcano from the bed in our room. NICE!

Catamaran trip from Maui to Lanai is a nice excursion.

Hope they enjoy the trip!

-Mark.

I have been to Oahu three times loved it. We went to Maui once and I got sick for days . Kind of ruined Maui for me.

Yeah, if you had to leave maui for another island, i would recommend oahu for the pearl harbor tour. Oh, and Hanauma Bay as well. Great place for snorkeling.

This. I would also recommend looking at Ka'anapali. Just north of Lahaina

I stayed in Waikiki on our high school trip to Hawaii. It's nearby Honolulu (on Oahu), a short drive from Pearl Harbor and if I remember correctly, it was more affordable than Maui.

Someday, after I'm done with college, I want to make a return visit to Hawaii.

My wife and I stayed in Maui on our honeymoon last September. I wouldn't recommend driving the road to Hana on your own, unless you're a great stunt driver. There are lots of spots where the road is barely wide enough for one car yet it's still a two lane road. We went deep sea fishing and had a great time. We went snokeling as well and had a great time. We went on a dinner cruise that was ok. The food wasn't the best, but it was a great evening. When we look back on it, the only thing we wish we would have done different was to take it easy. We actually planned too much and never really took the time to just enjoy the beach.

We just went to Oahu the latter part of August to early September. Had a blast. I'd love to be able to go back every couple of years. There is so much to see and do and we didn't even come close to doing everything we wanted. We did get to see Pearl Harbor and Hanauma Bay. We hike up Diamond Head and found one of the waterfalls, forget the name at the moment.

The locals said it was a slow season for them at the time. There were people, but there weren't too many for our taste. I'd love to go visit the active volcano, do some more snorkeling, just go back to the beach. Lovely, lovely place.
