G8 GXP Shift Knob

I got the knob.

So it doesn't quite fit right, however, it still requires a LOT of force to pull it off. I'd say that the stock knob requires more force, however. I haven't tried normal driving with it yet, but I tried to shift and it doesn't seem to move at all under the force of my hand shifting. It's because of the taper on the Camaro stalk - the GXP's is a smaller outward bump that the knob will fit over. I'm not sure what to do - leave as is? If anyone has any suggestions, I'd really like to make this work, as it ALMOST does.

Original post:
Does anyone know where to get the stock G8 GXP shift knob (Red/black)? I don't even know if it will fit but I'm willing to at least give it a try. Ebay has nothing, and I have to say the stock knob is just not comfortable for me . . .

It dos not fit, the opening is smaller in the G8 Shift Knob, but i know how to make it fit.

Finished mod:

It doesn't seat completely, but I honestly don't think it will come off in my hand as it requires a great deal of force to get it off.

wow, that's a nice looking shifter man. the only thing i would have done differently is set it up so that the leather boot doesn't come up all the way to the shifter. it'd be nice to see a little bit of stick underneath the knob.

great job though man. got nothing but respect for you trying to do this

You can't do it that way. The boot fits over the knob and you have to zip tie it underneath to the knob.

So I did dremel the edge of the inside of the knob shaft down just a little bit so it would stay as much as it could. In the end, it still doesn't go all the way but it's pretty darn tight anyway.

I didn't want to sand it TOO far down so that way I can leave my options open as far as Hurst + G8 shaft in the future.

Thanks

Unfortunately, there's no bezel or anything below that part of the knob. It's just a gap where it's all glued together, and also the space for the ziptie, so to leave that exposed would look bad, I think.

I know what you mean though, it would look nice with a little bit of trim or chrome something-or-other like the stock shifter.
