Question Help me im confused!!

When can we go into the dealer and buy a Camaro SS(without ordering)?? I thought the original plan was Feburuary-March. Why the hell is everyone saying Nov-Dec now!?!? Someone please tell the reason for this. Ahhggg this is what happens when you miss 2 weeks because your computer breaks down!!!

Pre-orders (sold units) can be placed with your local dealer between Oct. of 08 - March 15th 2009, after that you can go into any dealer and order, or see what they have on their lot.

The advantage of ordering now is that GM says they will fill those pre-sold units by the end of Oct. 2009. If a dealer has a Camaro available for sale between April - Oct. 2009, it will most likely be over MRSP and be a V6. If you find the 2010 Camaro you want on a dealers lots for sale between March 09 - March 2010, consider your self lucky and buy it as soon as possible.

The day of walking onto a dealer lot and seeing what you want and buying it, in my opinion is about a year away.

I am not gonna go as far as to say its a year away ponyman I think your exaggerating a bit. I am gonna say they will be in showrooms all be it in a limited amount august / sept. As hot as this car is and as bad as GM needs it they will have them in showrooms

So does the 1 month delay affect only the V8's or all Camaros?

Ok, let me say it this way - if you want a V6 and don't care what color it is, and how it comes optioned (and maybe at MSRP), you will find one before the end of the year on dealers lot for purchase. But, if you want a SS V8, in the color you want, with the options you want and at MSRP, I don't think I am over exaggerating the time line. Just my opinion!

I expect that it might be 6 months before there are SS's sitting on lots, waiting to be bought. But these will likely be few and far between. GM expects SS buyers to order it to their own personal specifications and not buying them off lots. So the SS you find in August might be a red 1SS when you want a black 2SS with a sunroof.

GM's expecting ~25k SS's to be bought for the first model year. over 8k of them were pre-orders. Even if the remaining ones were all lot cars (which they wont be), thats about 1000 a month spread out over every chevy dealer. Thats getting pretty thin to find the car you want on the lot.

And why don't you want to order it your way anyhow? I understand wanting to drive a car before you buy it but specifically wanting a lot car?

Oct 2009? Is it really going to take that long to fill 11,000 orders?

I ordered my '05 Mustang on Dec 30, 2004, and got it less than 3 months later. Ford built 192,000 Mustangs that year.

I would hope that once production starts in March, you could go into a Chevy dealer in April, order a Camaro, and get it within 3 months or so. That would be June, or July at the latest. October is quite a cushion, IMO...

No but GM gave that as a WORST CASE scenario but said barring any set backs all preorders could be filled by June-July. It should also be noted that GM is starting slow for the 1st month or two. Instead of building at full capacity they are currently building 40 cars a day. Plus the 1st 6,000 some cars are going to dealers as showroom cars, not for preorders.

Depends on the dealers allocation and when the order is actually accepted from GM. Orders normally take 4-6 weeks AFTER GM accepts the order, depending on the constraints, it may take a month or longer before the dealer can place your order. If you order from a dealer who has filled their preorder allocation, your order can not be place until their allocation has been delivered and the dealer gets more.

So lets say you ordered a car in April from a dealer who has filled their allocation. Their last allocation is delivered in July so you now have to wait for their August allocation before your order is placed. Barring any constraints, it would be late September before the car arrives.
